A review in two parts:

If you have never played Dixit: it's an excellent game. This particular copy has the best rules of all the versions. That is not to say you should avoid other Dixit boxes, but this one has been practiced and clarified, it's the one I would pull out to teach any new players.

The play is pretty creative, but not so wide-open or embarrassing (like some people may consider charades to be) that you can't get a wide range of people to play. The basic premise is that you have cards with images (unusual and lovely) that you want to get some but not all other players to guess by using some sort of verbal/noise clue. It's a great casual game. I hesitated for a long time before trying it, and now it's one of the standard games my family and friends want to play. Absolutely worth it. Any earlier version is still excellent, this one is just more refined for new players.

If you like it, you can buy the other sets to have more cards to play with.

For those who have played Dixit: the art style here is different, but the game is essentially unchanged. Journey is as worth the money as any other set just for the deck. The rules sheet is refined and I think the best at balancing the vagueness of Dixit's concept, while still clearly defining how the game works. I use this copy as my go-to for gifting to people, or introducing new players with. If you like having a large set of cards to play with, these ones don't disappoint, but are a clear departure in art style. There are some cards culled from previous sets, so it's not all new either.

Regardless of whether or not you have played Dixit before: do it. Try any set you like or find on sale. It's really a lovely, lovely game.

The first time I played this with a group of 5 I thought, what the heck did I buy this for? It was really a bad game. After we played we ate some food and couldn't stop talking about it. We played it all wrong.
The issue we had was we were trying to play at a competitive level. This isn't that type of game.
This game is to create conversation and tell stories.

I play with my 5 year old, and it really helps him get creative (Yes I know, the game is for 8 and up- but I assure you it is still fun). This game is about getting creative and using your imagination, once you learn that the game becomes pretty fun.

This game art is awesome, and the rules are simple enough that you can include children (for entertainment purposes at least).
Playing this with my son is great, he can take a card and give it a back story. That is the point of this game.
When my 5 year old started to play he would describe the card exactly, such as "Two Knights fighting on a chess board floor"...there are not a lot of cards that depict that. Now he might take that same card and say "This is necessary for the kingdoms!" It opens up a lot more possibilities.

A house rule I have to play with an adult and child:
Shuffle the cards and flip the top one and tell a story. Flip the next card and continue the story, and keep going. The game isn't meant to be played like that, but it is still fun.

My daughter took this game to the beach to play with her cousins. It was a huge hit with all the girl cousins and their friends. They would make special trips to the beach house so they could play. The ages were 10-14 and they absolutely loved it. I enjoyed it too, and was disappointed I couldn't get my nephews to play, because I think they would have enjoyed making up stories. I highly recommend this game for people with tweens or young teens - it's a great game for the family to play.

Only one minor bump was we misinterpreted the scoring rules for the first few games, by not giving points to the people whose cards received wrong guesses. Once that was cleared up, the incentives to play correctly lined up and we didn't worry about people purposely throwing a wrong card. We also found that first time players always make their clues way too specific. Fun for everyone!

Dixit Journey is a super fun game for all ages. I just received this as a birthday gift from a friend. I originally learned about Dixit from Geek & Sundry's Tabletop show. The big appeal of this game to me was how simple the gameplay was and the pretty illustrations on the cards. The concept is deceptively simple (a bit of a cross between Apples to Apples and Balderdash with pictures), but it presents the right amount of challenge because you have to think creatively about the clues you give. The object of the game is present a clue that is both vague and subtle because the active player receives no points if either everyone chooses the active player's card or no one chooses their card.

I brought Dixit Journey to a game night where the age ranged from 20s-40s. I was a little weary if people would take to it easily because it is such a simple game with minimal stakes or instructions (it's just players voting on which pretty card they think matches the clue the active player gave), but everyone enjoyed the game immensely. Everyone admired the wonderful illustrations. From what I've gleamed, the illustrations on this set of cards is slightly darker in tone, but not terrifying or inappropriate for young children. There was seven of us, so there was one team of two. They murdered the rest of us. The collaboration and input of two minds probably helped their chances of coming up with great counter cards when it was someone else's active turn. Everyone was absolutely charmed by the game.

The quality of the materials is also great. The box it comes in has this nice texture that makes it feel more sturdy. The cards are nice and big, so you can really examine the pictures.
