I have lived in Montana and spent weeks at a time on the A.T.
I wore vasque sundowners for the duration of my stay in MT which was about 4 years and other vasque boots in the Appalachians.

In the last couple of years I decided to give Asolo a try. First pair were the Rusher gtx's - great boot and best fit I've ever had but I do wear them EVERY day in the city etc... and they wore out very fast. Not only the sole but the suede dry rotted near the seam next to my big toe after about a year. They are still water proof and wearable but in bad shape. In their defense I must say I ABUSED them terribly now that I live in New Orleans and wore them in floods and walked on sidewalks perpetually.

Now I've been wearing a pair of the TPS 535 v's for about 5 months and will buy them as long as they are being made!!! the fit took a while to adjust but the leather quality is far superior to any boot I have owned. They are not made with gortex but are water proof and breath quite well - I don't live in the snow anymore so I don't know how they will fair in those conditions but they hold up great in water. Also the soles are made by vibram and are doing much better in the city than the Asolo treads on the Rushers. The only thing I would like to mention as being a slight bit off is the sizing - they run long - I bought the same size 10.5 for both Asolo pairs and these took a couple of months to reshape to my foot where as the Rushers fit from day one - Also I tend to wear an 11 in a lot of other brands so you will probably want to order a 1/2 size smaller than your normal fit. With that said I think anyone would be very pleased with these boots. Great quality for the $160 price tag

I bought a pair of these to do some hiking in the mountains of Guatemala and the Cascades of washington.... WOW, I took them out of the box and could have started hiking then. They are extremely comfortable and needed NO breakin time. I am considering buying another pair, just so I have a spare. Cant recommend enough.

I bought my first pair in March of 2010 and wore them EVERYDAY since then (today is 21 November 2011, by the way.) Right off the bat, I could tell these were going to be a comfortable boot. The first 30 miles were tight, of course. I was hiking up some steep terrain out in West Texas for that initial break-in. Once they broke in though, it was a dream. Though heavy, there is a good reason for that: they're STURDY.

I work on seasonal wilderness trail crews in the Sierra Nevada, a part of the country that is unforgiving to one's feet/boots. Rough fields of granite will eat your boots alive. Add 12 hours work days in remote wilderness locations for months at a time without a break or a hike out, a sub-par boot just won't cut it. So yes, my 'solos were perfect for the work, and the 2,000 miles I hiked in them since. However, after 6 months of everyday use, the tread was worn pretty badly. The leather was still good, though, keeping me dry. The boot stayed sturdy, even with the worn tread. So, I decided to do another season in them, even with the worn tread and scuffed leather. At this point, I was probably pushing them to their limits. I wore them until they were absolutely battered, never losing comfort. But I warn you, hiking with a battered boot is painful. Not your feet (they are still so comfortable), but your joints, hips, and lower back if carrying significant weight. With completely worn tread, the arch support and heel support is toast, affecting your body as a whole... Other problems I will point out, as I feel I put these boots through everything, is that Asolo won't resole them for you, and you really have to take care of the leather if you want to keep warm and dry (expected...it's leather). But you know, I am buying them again!

AWESOME !!!!but unfortunately they were the wrong size and I had to return them. I think they must run very small or else maybe I received a ladies size instead of men's. The gift was for my son and he really like the boot, but they are now out of stock so, I had to order elsewhere.
