This feeder is both well made and attractive. Wish I had known about it 4 nylon socks ago. Worth every penny.

The small size is perfect for finches, but I have found that if ONE sparrow feeds from the feeder only 2-3 finches can feed at the same time. Luckly the sparrows comes and go, they prefer another wild bird feeder with perches. Some seeds do exscape from the feeder, but what falls to the ground, the bigger birds can eat. I did purchase the weather dome with this item. The weather dome does not interfer with the birds feeding. I also have not had a problem with squirrels getting on this feeder since it hangs from a chain. I would say for me the small feeder has to be refilled approx. once a week. It took about 1 week for the finches to find and start feeding from this feeder.

Added:
I have had this feeder for about a month. The finches love it. The sparrow no longer come to this feeder that I have noticed. When full I have as much as 6 finches feeding and others waiting in the tree. I have to fill this up about every 4 days, so the medium size would have been a better choice in my case. Easy to fill and what falls on the ground the doves eat.

I have had as many as 15 Pine Siskins feeding at one time on this little nyjer feeder; also, a dozen Bushtits at another time. Dozens of birds line up in bushes waiting for their turn, and it is hypnotizing!

I was using finch socks, and squirrels, large birds, etc., were tearing holes in the socks. They have not been able to do any damage to this metal mesh. The finches love it!

After reading reviews on Amazon, chose this one as a step up from the plastic one that lasted basically one season. Already the goldfinch have found it and the fine wire mesh greatly reduces the seed loss from the previous one. Only things to learn from experience is what seeds can the birds not get through the mesh and will it rust. But very impressed.
