5.0 out of 5 stars A great review of the core concepts with examples!, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Aspen Audio Guide to Civil Procedure (The Aspen Audio Guide Series) (Audio CD)
I got this audio set for free in a contest and was very happy with it. I listened to the guide while driving home during Thanksgiving break and it really helped me put Civil Procedure into context. What is great about this set, and probably unique to it, is that Glannon segments each topic by audio track and provides review questions at the end of each with thorough answers. That was the most helpful because it helped clear my misconceptions. The CD set is in an MP3 format so you would need a CD player that can play MP3s (my car's CD player had that feature), otherwise you can listen on your computer. The recording is sharp and Glannon's voice is soothing. It is professionally recorded so there are no mistakes like listening to a live lecture. The CD set also includes a PDF with the review questions so you can read along. A friend of mine from another law school listened to the tracks with me when we took a trip and he agreed that the quality and content was superb. It's kinda hard to miss the mark with this because Civil Procedure is pretty uniform as it is a national standard. Glannon even has the updated Twombly case for those of you who know what that is ( : If I hadn't won this, I would have certainly bought it.(And also, because I know you are wondering, I went to a middle tier 1 law school, so I think I can fairly say that you will most likely find the content satisfactory.)

5.0 out of 5 stars The best legal audio guide ever, December 23, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aspen Audio Guide to Civil Procedure (The Aspen Audio Guide Series) (Audio CD)
Hands down, this is the best guide (audio or otherwise) you'll find on civ pro or on any other 1L course--though Glannon's E&E paperback is excellent as well (and I recommend it when you get into supplemental jurisdiction and it's application to joinder rules). Glannon is incredibly thorough and goes out of his way to make sure that you're crystal clear on the material, down to the nitty gritty details--which is exactly what you want for this topic. I would highly recommend listening to the entire thing (~13.5 hrs) before you begin the course in school, and once again before the final. You will get far more out of your in-class experience, save yourself a ton of time poring over written material, be exposed to both the essential case law and the codified law...and be grateful you spent a couple extra bucks. Be ware, though, if you haven't ever used an audio guide for learning law school material, don't think that you can generally expect the same level of detail, and quality, reliable, discussion you get from Professor Glannon (both here and in his E&E). The man is a law student's best friend, and such good friends are, one eventually finds, very hard to come by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glannon is clear and concise!, June 29, 2009
This review is from: Aspen Audio Guide to Civil Procedure (The Aspen Audio Guide Series) (Audio CD)
Professor Glannon's audio series is a wonderful complement to his other books about civil procedure. In this audio book Professor Glannon gives clear and concise black letter definitions of the rules of law. These rules are then applied to clear hypotheticals to reinforce your knowledge of the rule and concept. If you like Professor Glannon's works you will love this audio book to listen to on the go.
