Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Lethargic and entirely predictable, this latest romance from the author of Masquerade finds aspiring actress Kit Masters returning to her ranch, Silverwood, and to her hometown of Aspen, Colo., to film a movie that should not only make her a superstar but also boost the flagging career of suave leading man John Travis. The planeload of exotic Hollywood filmmakers does little to excite the cynical locals, already sated with celebrities and their antics. For Kit, the return home is fraught with emotional turmoil. She must confront the sweetheart of her youth, wholesome rancher Tom Bannon, who jilted her for a short-lived marriage, and she will ultimately be forced to make a choice between Bannon and Travis, who is now courting her with diligence and passion. Kit is also tempted to sell Silverwood for a staggering amount of money, cash she desperately needs to keep her ailing mother in a nursing home. The sale is to be handled by aggressive and bitter realtor Sondra Hudson, who has determined to snare the remarkably unobservant Bannon for herself. The novel is heavily burdened by its pallid romantic entanglements, stereotypical characters and unrelieved melodrama. Only her lyrical paeans to the beauties of Colorado jolt Dailey's prose out of its sluggishness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book Description, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Aspen Gold
In Aspen Gold the breathtaking terrain of Aspen, Colorado, serves as the backdrop for the enthralling story of a beautiful "Urban cowgirl" who must decide between a glamorous career and the handsome man she has secretly loved all her life.
Blond, outgoing Kit Masters was born and brought up on an Aspen ranch, but as a young woman, she left Aspen to pursue an acting career in Hollywood. She also left behind handsome rancher-lawyer Tom Bannon, who grew up on the ranch next door, the man Kit thought she would marry - and who broke her heart by marrying someone else.

Now Kit has been offered her first really big break: the lead role in a movie opposite famous actor-producer - and ladies' man - John Travis. By coincidence, the movie will be filming in Aspen, which, except for her father's funeral, Kit has not revisited in many years. Upon her return, she inevitably meets Bannon again, and they rediscover their romance. Both of them, however, are haunted by the past: Kit by the pain her caused her, Bannon by the memory of his dead wife. In addition, John Travis has begun to pursue Kit, ardently.

Kit has managed to remain unspoiled by her newfound success and her surroundings: beneath her sunny facade, she is a woman with a strong sense of family, loyalty, and integrity, with deep ties to the land where she grew up and that she still considers her home. Now she faces several difficult and dangerous decisions guaranteed to test those values she holds so dear. What will Kit choose to pursue - fame or love? If fame, is she willing to pay the price it demands? And if love, which man does she truly love?

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful...makes your mind imagine the scenery too., April 16, 1998

Being from Colorado, I can imagine the settings and the people who are in this book. Makes your heart do flip flops... a great romance, of rememberance, and adversity. Read it twice already, one of my favorites.
