This review is from: Asperger Syndrome - What Teachers Need to Know: Written for Cloud 9 Children's Foundation (Paperback)
Of the 100+ books I have read on topics related to Asperger's, this easy-and-quick-to-read book is tops. We are going to buy copies for all of our son's teachers and some of our family. The author explains Asperger's characteristics so simply and clearly, without being superficial at all. His observations indicate a deep understanding of the behaviors and challenges of children with Asperger's in (and out) of the classroom. There are many practical ideas and suggestions, and the book is so easy to read and refer to, busy teachers can find what they need quickly. Another reason that this book has become my new "favorite book on Asperger's" is because from the second or third page, the author shows positive characteristics of children with Asperger's. These are much easier to see if you feel a genuine fondness for and understanding of Asperger's children, and the author's warmth reads very genuine. By presenting the positive side of some Asperger characteristics that are traditional viewed as negatives, the author shows us how critical perspective is to viewing a situation. Highly recommended for teachers, family, or anyone interested in Asperger's.

Fantastic First Step,
By K Cunning (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Asperger Syndrome - What Teachers Need to Know: Written for Cloud 9 Children's Foundation (Paperback)
I am a teacher and like most teachers have little time on my hands. This book provided an excellent introduction to Asperger Syndrome for me. It was small enough to be manageable and easily read, yet large enough to contain loads of practical suggestions. The author writes in a very concise manner getting straight down to business rather than dragging out subjects just to fill the page. He also manages to really "get inside" the head of a child with Asperger Syndrome and allow the reader to see where the child is coming from. I keep this book in my top draw so I can flick through and refer to it regularly. I highly recommend it as a great starting point for any teacher or educator. In fact, it is a great first resource for any person who will be spending time looking after a child with Asperger Syndrome. Buy it for yourself or give it out to those who need to know more.

This review is from: Asperger Syndrome - What Teachers Need to Know: Written for Cloud 9 Children's Foundation (Paperback)
I recently purchased this book and it is a wonderful recource. It explains all of the medical terms that come with an AS diagnosis. Very easy to understand and great ideas. It can be read in a short amount of time and is not only great for teachers but for parents and family members wishing to learn more about AS and how to help an AS person better understand social situations. I highly recommend this book!

My son is newly diagnosed with AS. I bought this book to share with his new teacher. We have both found the book to be informative and an excellent resource for working with our little Aspie.

The perfect Handbook,

This review is from: Asperger Syndrome - What Teachers Need to Know: Written for Cloud 9 Children's Foundation (Paperback)
I wish I had found this book sooner! An excellent handbook to pass onto teachers. My son's teacher this year has never taught a special needs child before and has "devoured" this book, the strategies are easy to implement. It is concise and doesn't get bogged down with diagnosis, etc. If you have a teacher new to Aspergers I would recommend they read this book first and then Tony Attwood's book on Aspergers.

The first step in educating educators,
By
This review is from: Asperger Syndrome - What Teachers Need to Know: Written for Cloud 9 Children's Foundation (Paperback)
I'm getting my son's teachers and support team - who are convinced they've seen it all - ready for next year. This book is our first step. It is succinct, jargon-free and maintains a positive, constructive attitude throughout. It has value to any professional educator with any interest in developing his/her skills and educational techniques with ALL students, not just the Asperger's/ASD demographic. It gives the basics and hits the high points, as well as referencing many resources to search out more information, strategies, techniques and tools. For parents, either entering the fray for the first time or continuing the journey to maximizing our amazing kids, it is invaluable. A tool to use when setting priorities and get the already eager and motivated educators started. A weapon to use to breech the barriers of ignorance, to break through the walls of preconceptions and to motivate resistant teachers or administrators.

Very short and succinct and to the point. Having read other materials, attended workshops, etc., this book got to the heart of what teachers need to know when they have a child (or children) in their classrooms with Aspergers. I would highly recommend this book to teachers and administrators.
