I purchased this with Windows 7 and loved it. Lightweight, great
battery life. The processor was powerful enough for simple tasks on
the go--writing notes, browsing the internet.

I went back to get another, and it came with Window 8.
Unfortunately, the CPU and memory are not sufficient for
Windows 8. I am continually getting "low memory" warnings
even though I've only got a few applications running,
and the computer has crashed a number of times
due to low memory. I contacted ACER to see if I
could either back up to Windows 7 or increase the memory, but
that was no-go. (I have 4Gb memory and ACER reports that this is the max
for this machine.)

Short story: it is a great machine, but get it with Windows 7.

[For reference, the Windows 7 machine I compared it with was the Aspire 725-0412, 4Gb Memory. The Windows 8 machine was Aspire 725-0487.]

This netbook perfectly fit the bill for me. I am using it all the time. It is small enough to take anywhere and large enough to use as an everyday computer. It is zippy. I also love how long the battery lasts, I take it to panera and use it for hours, I don't even bring my charger with!

This is my first netbook, and I must say, I quite like it! It is powerful, a rather good boot-up time, and it is VERY light. The keyboard took some getting used to because the keys are rectangular, as did the track pad, but I figured it out in a few hours. Windows 8 was also a little awkward, and I suggest using the desktop, and deleting all the garbage that came on it. If it was meant to play games, I would take a star off because it is a bit laggy and the games will crash sometimes. And I am talking about basic and retro games, like Terraria and Super Crate Box. But I really like it overall, and it is a good use of your money. Very good for a on-the-go computer.

We used about 75 of these notebooks for a 1:1 laptop program in a grade 3-5 elementary school. It runs MS office and Skype smoothly. The small size, light weight and long battery life make it perfect for using throughout the school day. They have been fairly durable. Only a few problems out of the box, easily taken care of by our local supplier. The older kids say they are fast for the productivity applications and watching videos on the web, but too slow for their favorite video games, which makes it perfect for school use! The power adapter can be swiveled to be plugged in either vertically or horizontally.

The Acer is a netbook which is very easy to operate. It came with Windows 8, which was something new to us, but we are using it with great ease now and enjoying its operation. Thank you for your quick delivery. Bob Anderson

The purpose of these netbooks is not to replace full blown laptops, ultrabooks, desktops, or even high end netbooks. I bought this Acer Aspire One from Acer direct as a refurbished item. I know I can try to play games if I so wish or do work processing. Mainly these devices are meant for the basics and they are not supposed to be speed demons either people. My reasoning for getting this devices was to configure switches, routers, flash phones, tablets, etc.. These devices are small, inexpensive and have pretty good battery life. Frankly work should have bought it but that would have been like pulling teeth. I just wanted something small and portable. The resolution is pretty good @ 1366x768. The one I ordered came with Windows 8. I know Windows 8 isn't the greatest but you throw some free add-ons like classic shell, notepad++, launchy, NetSetMan, Teamviewer, VNC, and other utilities on it Windows 8 is very usable. It actually boots pretty fast. Overall operation of getting applications for web browsing, ssh, telnet, ftp, etc. are fairly quick and responsive. The only real slow thing I think I have found with this device is Windows Updates but guest what they are always slow. This is a get the job done netbook. FTP, SSH, Telnet, Web browsing, downloading, testing wireless, word process, excel, etc. are all great roles for this little puppy. Also for those of you who complain about all the software they throw on these devices guess what why the h@$% do you think they are so cheap. Those companys pay part of the bill by paying the manufacturer to let them include their software on the device. The majority of it is all removable.Read more ›

I'm writing on my moms account. I am going to review the laptop on what it is not what it isn't. so I will start with what it's not, it is not a mac and it is not the worlds best computer.I was scared away from Acer at first because of their costomer service, but I fell in love with this one. it has been 2 months and I have not needed to use customer service yet so fingers crossed. for those who are trying to figure out size ,it is about the same as a note book (not the kind of computer). I can't judge battery life because I useally use it plugged in.it is light and I think it is fast but hey I use vista at school so I could be way off the mark.it is just the right size to be portable and still have a somewhat roomy keyboard.
how ever it dose have its flaws.one is windows 8wich is made more for touch screen use so using it on a non touch screen can be kind of tedus.the only other problem I have is that the plastic outter caseing gets scratched semi easily.that can be solved with just a laptop skin though

over all this is a great laptop for me as I really only do basic word processing and surf the web , if this is all you will be doing the you should be happy. if you want to do something more complicated then look somewares else this is not the one for u. oh and like all laptops with one the camera sucks.
