4.0 out of 5 stars Recommended For Guitar Based EBM Fans, November 18, 2005
By
This review is from: Assassinate (Audio CD)
About the Band:
Long before bands Feindflug dominanted industrial dance floors, the Danish band Birmingham 6 entertained club goers with fast paced guitar fronted electronic body music (EBM). Birmingham 6's songs typically have an extremely left-leaning political bent, which should be of no surprise since the band named itself after a group of six Irish men who were wrongfully arrested in 1975 for an act of terrorism they did not commit.

About the Album:
My favorite track from this album is its name sake Assassinate, which incorporates a few break beats, countless samples from the JFK and Robert Kennedy assassination radio broadcasts, and police sirens. Israel has some wonderful middle eastern vocals playing in the background of a militant futuristic march designed to portray the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians - sadly the song is as relevant today as it was 10-years ago when it was written. Both versions Contagious are also personal favorites of mine -- especially when I'm jogging.

The rest of the tracks have equally fun lyrics, focusing on sex, drugs, AIDS, government conspiracies, and religion. This is one of my favorite albums, especially when I'm in the mood for a brief, but energetic escape from reality.

Similar Arists:
Fans of older industrial bands like KMFDM, Hate Dept., and Leather Strip or of newer aggressive EBM acts like Feindflug, Aslan Faction, or Hocico will likely enjoy this album. But be warned, there is heavy use of guitars and distorted vocals ... synthpop fans will be less likely to enjoy this album.
