As a collector of Lincoln assassination books, this one deserves it's rightful spot among the classics. Thomas Turner has done it again! His "Beware The People Weeping" is a masterpiece also.

Anyone who is interested in our American Civil War and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in particular should read this book. Thomas Reed Turner is a really good author. He knows how to put the facts and ideas across in an interesting and informative way. I heard he was a "Lincoln expert consultant" who helped director, Robert Redford with the movie "The Conspirator" that came out in 2011 and is now in dvd form. I'm hoping to find more books from this author.

Thomas Reed Turner is a distinguished professor at Bridgewater State University. He has taught about the Civil War and the Lincoln assassination for decades. He is a meticulous scholar who has used the most careful methodology in separating the fact and fiction of the Booth assassination, the attempt on the life of William Seward, the manhunt, and the various people who aided and abetted the murderers.

Turner does a great job of separating fact versus fiction. He did his doctoral dissertation on the Lincoln assassination and he is regarded as one of the most credible historians in the field. Dr. Turner has been on the History Channel specials involving the events at Ford's Theater and the aftermath. He discusses the controversial roles of Mary Surrat and Dr. Samuel Mudd. He offers his opinion about how culpable the people were in helping Booth get away, especially the medical treatment he received.

Turner provides a helpful appendix of primary source documents. This adds even more credibility to his assertions. Dr. Turner was my adviser when I earned an undergraduate degree at Bridgewater. His students loved him and his courses filled up quickly. I was fortunate enough to have him for four courses. He is a delightful gem of a man. He is a professional historian who has dedicated his life to his craft. I recommend his works for any one who wants to learn more about the Lincoln assassination and the events in the aftermath.
