5.0 out of 5 stars As a non-fan of Assassin's Creed, this game is awesome. November 25, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox One|Edition:Standard
Assassin's Creed is one of those series that is constantly disappointing me. I start playing them, get enthralled in the historical context and parkouring around all over the place. Then, I invariably get bored. The systems in place never seemed to hold my attention. The most I've played an Assassin's Creed game was probably the second one, but even that game I never finished. Never even came close. Because boredom. With my new Xbox One, with its kind of depressing slate of exclusive games, I wanted to make sure that I had a game that I knew wasn't a rushed launch title. So I sighed and picked up Black Flag, expecting to play it a little bit and then go back to playing XCOM on my PC. I was shocked to find that I didn't hate Black Flag.

Actually, I absolutely love it.

The biggest problems with these franchises (see: Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Elder Scrolls) is that each game is released as iterations, in that the core game is remarkably similar to the first game, but each time they iterate it, refine it. They change the story but you are doing pretty much the same thing you've done in Assassin's Creed or Call of Duty. The story and settings might be different. They might have given you a dog (or a Dragon Shout). But you're still playing the same game. In that regard, Black Flag follows suit. You're still assassinating Templars. You're still free-running across buildings. You're still performing absolutely annoying eavesdropping missions or sometimes frustrating sneaking missions. You're still caught up in some metaphysical story. You're still being interrupted with annoying modern day Abstergo interludes. But this iteration has a boat, something somewhat introduced in AC3, and it makes you a pirate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing on the Xbox One -- my favorite game so far November 23, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox One| Edition:Standard|Verified Purchase
Um... wow. I just finished playing this game this evening (no, I haven't finished it, I am just done for the evening... I just know somebody is already clicking the comment button... "you didn't finish this game you corporate plant!!!!" No, I'm not a plant either. Maybe a zombie. Right now anyway), and this will be the only review I write for the xbox one. This game brings back what was best about Assassin's Creed 2 and basically removes everything from Assassin's Creed 3. Like AC 2, AC 4 has a suave, interesting character (less moral, though, at least so far... but fun) -- rather than a whiny, angry kid with no appeal drawn from an ultra-liberal politically correct manual that makes the average liberal wince and the average conservative throw the remote across the room (AC 3 anyone?). No one will ever have the appeal of Ezio Auditore, but the characters in this game draw you in like AC did at its best.

Unlike AC 3, exploration in AC 4 is loads of fun. It doesn't feel like work. Every street of Havana is full of color and life, and sunshine (nice in the winter here by Puget Sound; also, nice in the summer when it rains everyday). I found myself wandering the streets, staring at people, and climbing buildings just for fun -- I even have been doing side quests -- it's what it felt like to be in AC 2, where it is a joy to experience the world they have created. I just rushed through AC 3, and I hated exploration... it always felt like work. Caribbean islands and seas are nothing short of remarkable on the xbox one.

Controls feel smooth and familiar, offering you more choices in combat (like in the Ezio trilogy, but unlike AC 3... see a theme yet?), buying stuff matters again, and I find myself excited about an AC game for the first time since Ezio.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoying this game. December 1, 2013
By moore
Platform for Display:Xbox One|Edition:Standard
Whoever gave this game 3 stars or less has some serious issues. I have never played any assassins creed games before and with the limited games for the Xbox one I was basically forced to get this game. So far I am having a blast. I was a big fan of all the Fable games and this is kinda reminding me of them. I am about 20% done with the game and about 16 hours into it. The first 30 minutes of the game I felt like I had made a big mistake. However once I got a feel for the game I am loving it. Attacking ships, finding treasure maps, building up fleets and upgrading my ship is fun. The graphics are not as good as Ryse which was the first game I played on x1. My favorite games in the past have been all the Mass Effects, Skyrim, Borderlands, Fable. So if you like any of those games you will enjoy this game for sure.

My review will not show as a verified purchase cause I got this game at GameStop. But I felt I needed to get on here and give a good rating for this game. I highly recommend this game for sure. And as I said I am not comparing to any of the previous assassins greed games as I never played them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Could be one of the best, longest lasting games ever made November 25, 2013
Platform for Display:Xbox One|Edition:Standard
I have played every Assassins Creed since day one and Assassin Creed Black Flag is the new leader for having to dethrone. If I played for two hours every night I would roughly be beating this around March or April and still everything would seem new and fresh. This game is just plain HUGE and so amazing with what they've done with the games world. It makes Grand Theft Auto 5 feel tiny. The amount of detail and quality of everything this game offers is highly impressive. They must have had a team working on this for years. The fighting is identical to the others but feels fresh and faster for some reason. The frame rate is solid haven't seen a frame rate issue yet or screen tare. The world feels alive and no matter what direction you look there's a enemy to be dispatched, ship to be sunk, animal to hunt, cave to explore or chest to be looted. The story is like all the others fun to follow but forgettable. Being able to dive is a great new feature also but can be creepy when swimming out deep and having sharks swim at you. If your an Assassins Creed fan this is the game we've been waiting for. Buy this asap and don't plan on beating it in a weekend.
