I actually bought this guide as a quick add-on purchase to bulk up my order for free shipping! I've never bought game guides before and generally considered them to be a bit of a cop-out. However, I realized that I just wasn't getting enough time to play Assassin's Creed on a regular enough basis and I thought that a guide might help me to "pick up" the game easier after some time away from it.

What I didn't realize was that the Guide would actually improve my enjoyment of the game entirely!

The guide is jam-packed with hints and tips of how to get around some tricky parts of the game, yet doesn't give away too much that it becomes completely unchallenging. The guide helps open up parts of the games and the maps that might otherwise be un-explored. So not only am I enjoying the game more, I'm playing the game on a much deeper level.

SO - about the guide itself. Its quite well layed out, so information is relatively easy to find. However, no index makes searching a little tougher than it needs to be. Thankfully its not too thick, so you can navigate the pages relatively easily. There have been some complaints about the maps not being accurate. There is an update on the website with pdfs of the maps if you need them. But I'm guessing that they updated the print version, because I've yet to see any issues with the maps so far (I'm about half way through the game now). Outside of the maps, the guide is full of information about each district and provides a very informative and fun way to interact with this fantastic game on a deeper level than the casual player.

I recommend it!

This guide will get you through the whole story, but there are quite a few mistakes that will definitely hinder you if you're trying to get every little thing the game offers. One example is the locations of the Templars on the Kingdom map vs the given screenshot examples. The screenshots are listed 1-30, but on the map, the numbers 31 and 32 appear while 23 and 24 don't exist. With this mistake in place it causes a major mismatch with the numbers to the screenshots. It took me a long time to figure out what was happening and even longer to correct the mistakes. Guides are supposed to help you on your missions and quests and this one didn't do a very good job. Instead of having fun, I became quite frustrated only because the guide was not carefully put together.

And for those who did buy this guide and happen to read this, one other notable mistake on the Kingdom Map for the location of King Richard's Flag, is that there are two number 30s and no number 67. The number 30 on the top right of the map is supposed to be number 67.

The book is quite good in helping you to finish the main storyline part of the game. At first i rushed in and fought everyone with the longsword, but after reading the stategies on the pages i was able to quick strike the main targets and then escape unseen and unharmed like a true assassin. What really got me angry was that there are a bunch of misprints on the maps, and the some of the descriptions of where to find the flag markers and the templars are completely wrong. For example there are 30 templars to assassinate in the kingdom level. The book states this in italic green print, but when you look at the map on the page (and the pull out map poster) there are 30 dots that somehow get labeled up to 32, and there's a bunch of more misprints too. If i had known about the mistakes in the book i would never have purchased it. Shoddy proofreading =2 stars. My advice to others (if you care) is don't buy this book. Look for one by another company or look online for hints. I was amazed because prima usually does a good job with their guides.

This guide has a very extensive "Tour of the Holy Land" which does a nice job of breaking down the cities and the Kingdom to make these huge areas less overwhelming. And of course they mark the flag and templar locations on the large maps at the end of the sections. For example, the book will discuss all the different parts of Acre's Poor District area by area with maps, and then shows a map of the entire Acre Poor District at the end with the templars and flags marked. Unfortunately, the numbers were pretty hard to read and the descriptions of the flag locations don't help much either. "On the roof" could apply to anywhere in any city. This is especially a problem in the map of the Kingdom. It would've been better if they'd also marked the flags and templars on the smaller area maps in larger print.
It also very extensively covers the game's mechanics themselves, going into a LOT of detail about platforming and fighting. You definately can't say that this game lacks content.
If you wanted a spoiler-free walkthrough, this is not for you. Also here and there they have little historical notes and explanations of literary references made in the game which I thought was a very nice touch. The walkthrough was thorough, but I personally didn't see the need to be told how to do much during the storyline. Most of the missions are only as hard as you make them anyway.
As an aside, the game became a lot more fun when I decided not to worry about the templars and flags. Just sayin'. So I'm not really the best person to vouch for or against this guide's accuracy when it comes to those things, only the fact that the numbers on the maps were hard to read.
Overall I'd say it was a very lovely effort, but I just didn't really need it.

Straightforward, clear, simple and thorough - that describes this guide well enough. The map is a nice addition as well. Definitely one of the best game guides, if not THE absolute best guide, for any 2007 video game release.

item was used so it was a little beat up and a few pages are missing. But not bad for the price since you cant find this item in stores and who wants to pay 25 dollars for a game and then pay 30 dollars for the guide.

I bought this book initially for my nephew, but ended up keeping it for myself. This book is a must if you want to master assassins creed.

It really eases the frustration in understanding the complexity of this game. I can't see getting through this game without it.

So you open this guide and you see a lot of instructions, but that is just how to get the extras. Flip more pages to see more of the same. The actual game guide begins near the center of the guide. Once you are at the guide and you want to collect bonus items at the same time, all you get is a line saying something in the lines of "see that section for details". I was surprised to see that poor compiling from such a name as Prima. I expected a guide as well put together as Tomb Raider Anniversary; now this is a guide. The writers could've put all the materials together so as you progress through the game, you can collect as well without flipping pages like crazy. Feels like I'm looking through a dictionary.
