Book Description

"There were a few twists in the book that I didn't see coming--which is always a plus. If you're a fan of fantasy, or just plain ol' good storytelling...grab this one. It's a keeper!" WestCoastBookLover

"Fans of epic fantasy or good, old-fashioned, high-quality storytelling will all love this book - highly recommended!!" K. Sozaeva

"This is an amazing book. I could hardly put it down once I started. The story is well-written and engaging, really pulling you into this world that David and Debra have created...I would highly recommend this read to anyone who loves an exciting read. Geat job!" Skypointe

Disclaimer: This book is about assassins and contains violent scenes appropriate for the story.

When elite assassin Jeda received his assignment to kill a witch and deliver her twin daughters to the Countess of Berkshire, he had no idea it would be his last. The witch stuns him with an elemental blast, but not before he's able to throw his knife. When Jeda regains consciousness, the dying witch is performing a compelling spell between him and her twin daughters.  Now bonded to the girls, Jeda's old life is forfeit. His only thought is to take the girls and run as far away as he can. He has no idea that the twins are the ones spoken of in the long-lost prophecy of The Witch Stone. Forces are gathering: the white witches want to teach them; the Countess wants her grandchildren back, and the guild has sent their best assassin to bring Jeda back, dead or alive.

Jeda must use all of his assassin skills to stay one step ahead of them all, but will it be enough to save himself and keep the children of prophecy alive?

Assassin's Curse is ~98,000 words (392 pages in print)

From the Inside Flap

Something's not right, I can feel it.

The moon finally broke through the dissipating rain clouds and its light afforded Jeda a better view of her building. The lone window of her room had scant protection: a threadbare cloth covering that barely held out the elements. The window would provide easy access for Jeda's entry, but the rain had made everything a slick mess. He studied the outside of the dilapidated building and memorized the handholds and ledges that he would use in his climb to reach her.

As he surveyed the building, his sixth sense flared again and a disturbing feeling swept over him. He had always thought of these feelings as his curse, his assassin's curse: to be able to discern unknown danger before it happened. It often left him second-guessing himself and the choices he made. It was hard to trust these feeling when he did not understand where they came from. Curse or blessing, he felt them strongly as he watched the window across the narrow alleyway and wondered what he would find when he went through it. He looked around the rooftop and the surrounding area for anything unusual, but his only companions were the rats and the dead they feasted on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy epic, highly recommended! January 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a really great book - it moves fast, but at the same time develops the characters to the point where you will really feel for them. Mave is a wonderful villain, in that I really, truly hated him and hoped he would come to a bad end. Jeda is a perfect anti-hero, and the girls Kala and Kara are so different from each other and unique - I was really impressed with how the authors developed them. The Black and White Covens created a wonderful contrast and I found it highly entertaining; the Assassin's Guild is just vague enough that you are drawn between unease over the assassinations, and interest that they would provide this sort of service for hire. Fans of epic fantasy or good, old-fashioned, high-quality storytelling will all love this book - highly recommended!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! January 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Every once in a while I find a book that draws me in so effectively that I don't want to put it down. Assassin's Curse is one of those books.

Jeda is a great hero, even though he's forced into the role. The authors do a great job of transitioning him from cold-blooded killer into unwilling hero, and then finally a man who'll freely stop at nothing to protect his family.

There's more than one "villain" in this book. But Mave gets my vote for being the scariest. Literally. This guy is pure evil. I spent the entire book enthusiastically anticipating Jeda finally getting the best of Mave. I wasn't disappointed.

There were a few twists in the book that I didn't see coming--which is always a plus. If you're a fan of fantasy, or just plain ol' good storytelling...grab this one. It's a keeper!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected Enjoyment January 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I picked this up at the last minute as i needed something new to read and the cover caught my eye. I was sucked in not too long after the first chapter and this book gets better as you keep reading. You learn more and start to care for the main characters. There are some twists in there i didn't expect & things moved along quickly in some instances but it was definitely an enjoyable read. I didn't think i'd come to care for Jeda but you start to hope things work out for him & the girls. It's a must read and the authors are good storytellers, can't ask for much more than that. Can't wait to continue on to the next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mildly Disappointed
The book was a good read for the most part but I was really disappointed by the way it ended. I felt that it was so sudden, yes it left it open for a sequel but there isn't one.

More About the Author

Science fiction and fantasy author who started writing with co-author, David W Small in 2006. Writing with a co-author is challenging in itself, but when 1 author lives on the East Coast and 1 lives on the West Coast, the challenges are a bit more daunting, but because we live in an electronic world of email, Instant Messenger and Skype, the partnership is totally workable. What makes the partnership even better is that David is my brother. We love the same types of books and that love naturally evolved into writing our own books.

The newest release is "The Silver Cross" in the series, VAMPIRE NIGHTLIFE.

We have published "Quest for Nobility" and "Crystal Facade" in the RULE OF OTHARIA trilogy. The final volume, "The King's Last Word" is forthcoming.

"Assassin's Curse" Book 1 in the WITCH STONE PROPHECY, was released in 2012. Witch's Curse" Book 2 in the WITCH STONE PROPHECY will be published in 2013.

If you like post-apocalyptic fiction, we have written three stories in the DARK FUTURE series, "Path to Destruction," "The Right Path" and "Zia's Path."

Debra blogs regularly at Two Ends of the Pen about writing, publishing, ebooks, guest posts, author interviews and book reviews. You can also find a complete list of published books.
