Editorial Reviews

Review

He enjoyed his Gold Label scotch served neat ... and his victims dead. "Take my hand if you want to live!" J. H. Bográn's well-crafted crime thriller takes you where you'd never want to go. Highly recommended for a chilling few moments of your reading life.
--Bonnie Turner, author of Face the Winter Naked

"José Bográn's short story THE ASSASSIN'S MISTRESS is an unusual, gripping and surprisingly fun ride on a killer roller coaster."
--Lauren Baratz-Logsted, author of The Bro-Magnet

"The Assassin's Mistress is a great, quick read that holds your attention from the first word to the last. J. H. Bográn wastes no time taking us from a hero's rescue to the budding love affair that cannot help but end in disaster.
This crime thriller feels more like a suspenseful spy novel. There's intrigue, suspense and secrets. The suspense plays out in slow motion and you can almost see what's coming and brace for it, but you're never quite sure what will happen next, and then...
Bográn's well crafted thriller reads easily from beginning to end. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a quick read with a good plot that includes surprising twists and turns."
--M. J. Logan, Mandy's Pages

"The Assassin's Mistress is only fourteen pages long, yet in that short time, you get to know the two main characters enough that you care about them. I don't know if there are other stories starring Robert Prescott, but I could certainly see a full book with him. Even with just this small piece, he was developed enough that he could carry a book, which would undoubtedly reveal more of his story.
--Helen Ginger, author of Angel Sometimes

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting short. April 16, 2012

I read the Assassin's Mistress more than a month ago. This is a well constructed short story. Or is it a short? You just might find yourself spending more time contemplating its conclusion than it took to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story! March 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this short from J.H. Bogran. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and while this story was hot, the ending was a perfect twist. My only complaint? I wish it was longer! Looking forward to reading more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect set-up for a full-length novel May 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
An action-packed, white-knuckle opening, followed by a gripping story of romance and intrigue that ends too soon and with a few loose ends, the perfect set-up for a full-length novel that is bound to attract an international audience.
