4.0 out of 5 stars Buy it for the Battery - Drop the Assault.
Not a typical fan of breaks, so I guess Baby Anne's CD is alright - pretty solid mixing. It can get a little relentless though. Some nice melodies splashed in and around the breaks and beats towards the middle and end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Throw out the Baby with the Bath Water! Keep Jen in the House!
I was almost reluctant to pick this one up because I expected your typical "it all sounds the same to me" mix of beats from start to finish. But that cover was just so dammm hot! Plus, Jen Lasher was a bit of a mystery to me so I went for it.

My prediction for DJ Baby Anne was exactly correct. It was, at least for me, tedious to listen to. I almost couldn't...

Not a typical fan of breaks, so I guess Baby Anne's CD is alright - pretty solid mixing. It can get a little relentless though. Some nice melodies splashed in and around the breaks and beats towards the middle and end.

Jen Lasher's CD is great (in a tongue in cheek sort of way) and worth the price of admission. The first five tracks are great and the other ones are not that bad. Only downside is Lasher's own production -- track 14. I read a review somewhere that criticized the mixing though on this disc though I thought it was top-notch especially when mixing songs (as some of the tracks are) instead of just tunes. The CD is diverse in musical styles (electro pop to house-y to psy-trance in the same mix that makes sense -- from light and fluffy to dark and chewy -- is cool) as opposed to just driving breaks like CD1 and some of the tracks are humerous though some with inane vocals.

For a decent spectrum of sound pick up this package -- you'll get more than enough breaks and some cheeky dance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Baby Anne brings another bangin' breaks cd...., November 26, 2005
This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
Now there are two ways to rate this double-disc set:

1)Average the good disc and the not so good disc and give the two as a whole a mediocre rating.

OR

2)Realize you only paid for 1 disc anyway and one of the discs is definately good. (I'm choosing this one....obviously)

DJ Baby Anne (Assault) brings another great breaks disc that is every bit as good as Mixtress. The mixing here is excellent as always and there are definately some really nice tracks you'll be listening to for a while. (really liking 'Fear 2' and 'Dementia' right now)

As for Jen Lasher (Battery) I, too, am a little confused at this pairing with DJ Baby Anne. Her mix is *odd* to say the least. It starts out with a poppy 80s feel mix and by track 8 starts moving into this darker sound that teeters on the edge of being full blown Electroclash. (I'm not saying that is all bad....I especially like tracks 10 and 13) Basically, this disc could be enjoyed, but not when you want to listen to Baby Anne's stuff. The two discs simply do not complement each other very well. (A LOT of vocals on this disc)

Conclusion, if your a Baby Anne fan, buy it for DJ Baby Anne's disc. Its definately worth it. 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Split Personality, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
The first cd from Baby Anne is fairly typical florida breaks fare. I wouldn't claim that's a bad thing, but don't expect to be surprised if you're familiar with the genre. Overall it's a solid offering from Baby Anne and delivers the bass.

The second cd is a surprising mix from Jen Lasher, who has abandoned her old breakbeat sound and fully adopted a more electro feel. To those who have labeled this "industrial" I will say first and foremost that you are wrong. There is not one remotely industrial track on the cd. What she does provide is an extremely varied mix of synthpop, house, and a couple breaks tracks, all very vocal and sporting an electro pop flare, sometimes approaching the full-on ny electroclash sound. From someone quite familiar with electropop artists I can't recommend highly enough this diverse mix guaranteed to please newcomers and electro afficianados alike.

My only complaint is the strikingly misplaced Wolfsheim track, which I can only assume fueled the misguided and completely false Depeche Mode comparison from another reviewer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Florida Breaks & Awsome Mixed Tracks!, October 21, 2005
This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
I've Been a fan of DJ Baby Anne ever since Mixtress! Her album ( Disc 1 : Assualt ) seems to have the same STUDIO AUDIO GEM SOUND to it also. Baby Anne's CD has some WICKED Mixed Florida Break TRAX! You'll probably be left wondering where she got them from. All & All ( Disc 1 : Assualt ) has some HARD hitting BASS , FLORIDA Breaks , & a excellent Electronica Theme to it! I bought this Double Disc Album for Baby Anne's SET ALONE & was NOT SADEND in ANY way!

Jen Lasher's Album ( Disc 2 : Battery ) is very unique in quality sound & theme! With PERFECTLY SEAMLESSLY MIXED TRACKS. The 1st half of her album is uplifting & @ times bubbley in a sense! This album has a slightly Goth Industrial Elctronica theme to it on the 2nd half of this album! I didn't buy this Double Disc set for this CD , BUT it makes a MUST HAVE ELCTRONICA CLUB COMPANION type Album ; to DJ Baby Anne's Wicked Killer Florida Break Beat Set!

Get this CD if You're a REALLY UPFRONT NEWSKOOL ENERGY ; KIND of Dance Lover!
Guaranteed to Satisfy the Beat Hungry Monster in YOU.... Get it NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars OK, where's Jen Lasher?, July 23, 2007

This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
I have to admit, being a guy, I bought this album because I had heard good things about DJ Baby Anne, but mostly because the cover was HOT! After putting in the first CD (The DJ Baby Anne set), I was greatful I had bought the CD. I don't usually go out on a limb and buy untried albums, but this one was not a disappointment.

But when I put in the Jen Lasher set (Disk 2), I was completly in love! This set has got to be one of the best I've ever heard in the D&B/Jungle genre! She starts with a few startling tracks, but I grow to love even them more and more! The rest of the whole CD just gets better and better until I nearly pulled the CD out of my car and framed it on the mantle! If you enjoy a good Junglist album with a little house feel (alot of vocals, but wonderful!) you'd be insane not to add this to your collection! Also, WE NEED another set from Jen Lasher! It's a crime she hasn't put out any other albums I can find!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another disappointing album from Baby Anne, but..., September 29, 2006
This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
I've been listening to Baby Anne for years, but lately her albums are aweful. She picks out the most horrible songs to mix together. I bought this album because I wanted to give her another chance to mix another classic, but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

I know you're thinking why did this guy give it 4 stars?!

Well, I bought the mix because it was Baby Anne, and I figured since it had another hot chick on the cover it made that much more sense to buy. I've never heard of Jen Lasher before now, but her disc blew me away. I've been listening to all kinds of techno for a long time and I figured it'd be another breakbeat mix, but was I wrong. Her disc is a diverse mix of electropop that's awesome to say the least. Too bad she hasn't made any other albums.

I'd say pick this one up to hear Jen Lasher's mix. Baby Anne's mix leaves MUCH to be desired, but you won't be disappointed with Jen Lasher's.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best I have heard from Techno in a While ! Baby Anne and Ms lasher showed there Ass !, January 5, 2006

This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
I can honestly say ! I am pretty hard on this type of music ! Most of it can be redundant and sound the same. 1st of all everyone give Jen lasher her Props ! Disc 2 is a manificent effort ! It is almost like listening to old school animated techno ! I love it all the songs seem to have there on unique sound and a playful sound at that ! I love that, it almost sounds like a cartoon DJ of some sort ! I feel it is a perfect disc to come behind Baby Anne's so serious hardcore breaks ! DANMASS : Lucid is an amazing song it reminds me of the days when house wasn't so bland ! Psycho Radio's : Sound is shocking, is another amazing playful song ! Anthony Rother's : Father, that base line is simply amazing u just don't hear this kind of creativity this say in age !I would love to know what this style of house this is classified ? Jen lasher brought the pain and something different to the game ! Very European real Sh*t ! Not this old watered down american House that I hate so much which is "CHeEsE" !

Now, the obvious !
We all know that Baby Anne is the master of breaks right now ! She has pretty much filled the shoes of breakbeat legend Dj icey ! I have to say this is her most solid effort since " Baby anne in Las vegas Live". Personally I didn't think she would ever live up to that but she did ! "Baby Anne's Mixtress" was a decent effort but not as solid as this. "Assault" definitley brought the pain and is a solid player ! Baby anne's : She's a Devil shows who she learned her Production style from "Icey"! Which is a Bad ass track, strickley business as usual ! Were Baby Anne is just strickley business and Beating people down! Jen Kicked us in the ass with something different and unique ! Both disc are both equally worthy of the price ! "Assault and Battery" is the perfect techno cd, a long player for any party. No skip material here , this is a whole hearted effort from both artist !

Nothing out there in this genre,is as satifiying as this or complete !

If u are a late night chill trance listener?

Amin van Buuren: State of Trance 2005 is another good long
Player ! Real smooth "Late Night" Trip hop, ambient sounding tracks with some, female Vocals ! Please don't make the mistake and get "2004" it is extremley ...........
Boring ! Not even the same style of music, I made that mistake !
I hope this review has been helpful !

A+

By
This review is from: Assault & Battery (Audio CD)
Yeah, I just picked up this awesome set on Tuesday and lemme tell you Im simply blown away!CD 1 Assault features a nonstop mix of bad ass bass driven Florida breaks while CD 2 Battery features the hot ass Jen Lasher and her crazy funkdified electro/industrial beats mixed with some occasional breakbeats.Jen's style kinda reminds me of new wave electro 80's which I dig.Two totally different styles are put together for one slammin stellar cd set. This is highly recommended to anyone who loves dance music and one of the best set's ever to be released!

I almost couldn't make it through the whole CD. All the while thinking about how I might still be able to sell this one through Amazon's Marketplace.

Then, with no other discs in the car, CD1 came to and end and it was either CD2 or the radio. Since there is really no such thing as good radio, I popped in CD2. What a difference! I was really suprised by how much different the second disc was. I really liked the electro-clash style, yet still there was a new slant on it. The artists selected all sounded good to me and must say I enjoyed the disc tremendously. Too bad I couldn't find anything else available by Jen. I'll just have to watch to see if she stops through Boston to spin some trax one night!
