B Movies never die,
By A Customer
This review is from: Assault (DVD)
If you are into saturation violence, shoddy acting and female killers The Assault is just what you're looking for. Otherwise forget it. Basically the movie involves a woman who has witnessed a murder and is on the run from a bunch of crooks who want to kill her and finds refuge in a half-way house for women. The crooks catch up with the little lady and the killing begins. Lead by Stacie (Stacie Randall) and Toni (Melissa Braselle, who also has part of writing credits) the group of eight women mow down about 80 or 90 of the goons with the loss of only one of their own. The creeps have as much regard for their own lives as the man-eating plants in Day of the Triffids or the zombies in Night of the Living Dead. Randall and Braselle blow them away like clay pigeons. There is one man in the half-way house (Matt McCoy) who entertains a schmaltzy love interest in Randall, but for as charmless and non-contributing as he is, his part would have been best served by a pet house cat. A particularly amusing point is that with all the scum bags the girls gun down, whenever there is a scene outside the house, there isn't a stiff in sight! There ought to at least be an acre of them stacked neck high. Sorry to say there are people who enjoy movies like this, and I unfortunately, am one of them. I fell in love with Melissa Brasselle and am chomping at the bit to see more of her movies. I only hope they're as good as this one ---- OK!

The Assault(DVD
I think that for around half a century film actresses have had a raw deal with roles, especially in English-speaking countries, where they are better served in TV dramas anyway. US/UK movies overly depend on only a handful of names such as Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Helen Mirren etc., that have screen presence and can secure quality work. Therefore I find that the option I tend to go for is in (generally very low budget) kick-ass female-led actioners such as this one, on a reasonably priced DVD of a 1996 movie. This hardly demands great acting (lots of the old "get down!" clichés) but at least it gives the ladies something to get their dainty teeth into. The plot is rarely ever plausible and the basement into which the gals retreat under siege is factory-size enormous, but it's a fun watch all the same. I thought it hilarious when the end credits gave thanks to a certain owner that allowed the film company to blow up his house for the climax. Paul Williams, Eastbourne, UK. Amazon verified purchaser.

One of Director Jim Wynorski's best.
Good action and story, with Jim's usual players. Stacie Randell and Matt McCoy are great. Highley Reccomended.
