This cast aluminum filter cover wrench fits the cover used on BMW N54 & N55 engines. It's a quality die casting and well finished so should last forever. A much better tool then the cheap plastic or stamped sheet metal wrenches found at discount auto stores. As a bonus, it has a beautiful, bell-like tone if you tap it gently. Tap a plastic wrench and all you get is a dull "thud". With a name like "Assenmacher" it's got to be good!

Exactly as advertised! Amazing how much easier a job is with the right tool. Changing oil on a 2002 Volvo S40 was made much easier with the proper oil filter wrench to remove the oil filter. Where previous oil change jobs resulted in no filter change, this took a matter of minutes to remove.

This tool precisely fits the oil filter housing. I used it on my wife's 2008 BMW X3 3.0L engine. Definately a great bargain!

I used to remove and attach the oil filter housing by hand. This wrench made it so much easier to do the job. Only two issues with the wrench. First, it can get stuck onto the oil filter housing after tightening. After a few whacks, I was able to slide it off. Second, this wrench needs a 21mm socket to use. My socket set only goes up to 20mm and had to get one. Not a big issue, but would have been nice to include in the item description.

After struggling for hours with all sorts of Oil Filter Wrenches from Autozone we finally gave up trying to remove the oil filter on my son's 2006 S60 R.

We guessed that there must be a Volvo tool to do this and called a local Volvo dealer about buying a oil filter wrench. The parts department didn't know much about it and then said they would get back to us, which they never did. Searched the internet and then found them being sold through Amazon.

Best price deal here, only shipping is expensive, but total price wasn't bad and compared to the Volvo part a steal. Ordered oil filter wrench late on a Saturday and received it the following Tuesday in the mail. Great service as Amazon still had us not receiving it for a least another two days.

Packaged by Assenmacher and made very well of metal and a must tool for the Volvo owner who wants to do their own oil changes. The nut end is 21 mm, so if you use a wrench or socket you'll need a 21 mm tool. BTW, the drain plug for the 2006, S60 R is 17 mm, so you'll need a tool for that too. It also works for some BMWs too.

For the price, you won't find a better tool for the job. This grips the cap in BMW N54 & N52 engines, like My 2007 525 xi, easily. 21mm attachment is needed to use the tool, and that isn't in every 'mechanics toolset' -- so you may need to get one of those on Amazon too. Made of metal, so won't break or crack like cheap plastic ones.

Read all the reviews and understood fit could be a "minor" issue, but the fit turned out to be a major issue. It was so poor that it will deform the plastic cap edges if used to remove or tighten the cap during a filter change.

I Do not recommend this product at all....poor casting quality!

Update 9/16/2013:
Not to trash the Assenmacher tool or company, but speaking from a mechanical engineering perspective. The Assenmacher product fits like it was one or two socket sizes too large when applied to a BMW 2008 535i oil cap.
This led the return of the Assenmacher product to Amazon (Amazon made returning this so very easy; excellent customer service after the sale.) I researched the Internet for a tool similar in construction with tighter manufacturing/quality "fit" specifications and located a company/tool that met my expectations. The new tool just arrived and it fit like a glove....or similar to using the right "socket size" for the job at hand.

I'm providing this information in hopes that Amazon will contact this supplier and start carrying ECS products on Amazon, as this supplier does not sale their product on Amazon presently. Bottom line, if you want a tool that fits and functions properly as if you were a BMW or Volvo mechanic....this this is the tool you would have in your tool box.

Highly recommend the ECS tool over Assenmacher hands down!

Not trashing Assenmacher, but their tool is not the quality it should be as advertised in this case. The ECS tool is absolutely the tool you expect it to be and more!
