More About the Author

Most of my recent books have been on the 18th- and 19th-century religious architecture of New Jersey. They are more than photographic inventories; really a social and cultural history of why the churches look the way they do. The churchscape of Union County should be available in August 2013, and Hudson and Cumberland Counties by October. You can get more information about all of the titles at my publisher's and at

The ironic thing about this work is that I am a howling atheist--have been since the day I was confirmed in the Lutheran church. But that gives me a certain independence of outlook!
