Editorial Reviews

Saying no, standing up for yourself without violating the rights of others, and holding your ground are difficult challenges for millions of people. Avoiding conflict by appeasing others and seeking approval inevitably compromises self-esteem. Dr. Coyle describes a practical and powerful bio-psycho-social solution to this problem.

Asserting oneself is a common challenge yet it hinders emotional growth and even safety for many of us. This module is embedded in both the Abuse and Trauma Tracks (each sold separately) because it is inevitably a part of both of those conditions. It is presented here, outside of the context of those challenges.

THE PRESENTER:
Additional information about Dr. Coyle can be found. He compassionately offers practical solutions founded in clinical practice and is committed to improving quality, access and economy of emotional health care through psychoeducation and partnership.

Many additional resources can be found including innovative web-based assessment tools by Dr. Coyle. All presentations have a handout/journal available to assist in learning this material. Other creative educational content is regularly being added. Streaming content, iPod and Unbox download formats are available. If you are looking for a DVD that demonstrates appropriate assertiveness skills (like I was), you will be disappointed. However, there is an excellent instructional section that covers what a clinician needs to work on BEFORE addressing boundary/assertiveness issues with the client. It also has information that could be used to convince skeptical clients that this is what they need. So although it WASN'T exactly what I wanted or was looking for, I do see the potential for a great deal of use in my counseling office in the future.

I wanted a DVD to use with teens in counseling sessions. This DVD is NOT appropriate for that. The speaker is not a good narrator. Also, it is somewhat boring.

BORING VIDEO. I'm not sure who the intended audience is. It's like watching paint dry. I bought it to teach communication skills in groups. No one was interested at all and even I had a hard time staying awake.
