School Psychologist's Bible,
By Mellie "Mellie" (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Assessment of Children: Cognitive Applications, Fourth Edition (Hardcover)
A phenomenal book that gives a good overview of each of the main tests used by school psychologists, and has many tables and lists that help with report writing. There's also a section that highlights good/bad reports and the reasons why. When I was a student this was a necessary tool. As a first year school psychologist I still refer to it. Beware that there is a supplement that now goes with it as this book came out before the WISC-IV. Hence, you may want to check to see if Sattler is bringing out a new book in the near future and hold off for that to avoid having to buy both the book and the supplement. That's why I gave only 4 stars. It's expensive but well worth the money.

A "bible" for school psychologists,

This book is essential for those who are studying to be, working as or working closely with school psychologists. The only thing lacking in Sattler's publication is a more thorough coverage of the Woodcock-Johnson assessments.

Graduate Student's Opinion,
By A Customer
This review is from: Assessment of Children: Cognitive Applications, Fourth Edition (Hardcover)
Sattler's work is a wonderful tool that has helped me better understand assessment. There are wonderful charts and worksheets that make interpretation of results much easier. I recommend the purchase of this book to anyone involved with the assessment of children. I especially recommend this to any school psychology major.

An important reference tool and must read for School Psychologists,

This review is from: Assessment of Children: Behavioral, Social, and Clinical Foundations. (Hardcover)
This book is a 'must have' for every school psychologist. Sattler is a recognized expert in assessment. The book is certainly helpful as a reference and an overview of important concepts. The reason I gave it 4 stars was that I found the writing a little hard to follow at times and overly general on certain topics. I heard that Sattler now has additional guides that can be purchased with this book. It would be great if Sattler would provide smaller and more specific 'how to' manuals for the main assessment tools school psychologists use. Overall, I can see how Sattler has achieved is excellent reputation. This book is a necessary reference for all practitioners in the field.

As a graduate student in a school psychology program, I am always looking for books that are simple, direct, and informative. I think that Sattler was successful in capturing these attributes and then some. He was able to identify and fully explain different assessment tools in layman terms. He also was descriptive of the various tests, subtests, and provides the knowledge that one should have to correctly intrepret the test results. I feel that this book is the bible of school psychologists and is a must have in every school!

I was glad that I found this book for a reasonable price and it is a necessity for my graduate course. The book has a lot of helpful information and I will use it for years to come. The sender had the book to me in a reasonable amount of time. The first time I used the book in class I was shocked to see that a tagging needle stuck through approximately the last 100 pages of the text. Thankfully I could remove it without harm to myself and that the hole through the pages was very small and did not cause damage to the actual reading text. I messaged the seller and she apologized for what happened and all that but I feel that more attention needs to be paid to things before you send them.

Surprisingly disappointing,
By Floyd Rosenkrantz (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews

I was really looking forward to this book, and then when I got it, it was all lists and facts and didn't tell me *what* was important -- there was enough information -- too much, even -- but not enough indication of what was essential and what was fluff. I guess I expected a lot more.
