About the Author

A native Pennsylvanian, Carl Burak received his AB from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, and his MD from Temple University in Philadelphia. He earned a JD from the University of California at Berkley (Boalt Hall) and completed his Psychiatry training at the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco (the Langley Porter Neuropsychiatric Institute). Dr. Burak served with the US Health Service on the Navajo Reservation as Chief of Medicine at the Tuba City (Arizona) Indian Hospital. He is a past Diplomate of the American Board Family Practice, and Diplomate of the American Board of the Psychology and Neurology, and a Fellow of both the American Psychiatry Association and the American College of Legal Medicine. He is a member of the clinical faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida Medical School in Gainesville. Dr. Burak is the author of two previous books: The Cradle Will Fall (1994), and When I Became a Psychiatrist, People Stopped Waving on Main Street (2006). Carl and his wife Ronnie live in Atlantic Beach, Florida. He continues to practice psychiatry, write, and run/hobble on the beach.
