I play this album all of the time at the radio station where I work, and it is one of the best albums I have heard lately. I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of depeche mode, erasure, and star trek.

Good but can be better,

If you like the first three S.P.O.C.K albums and can stand even more pop you should buy "S.P.O.C.K: 1999"and "2001: a S.P.O.C.K odyssey". They represent a S.P.O.C.K of the 21st century.

An excellent example of the legendary Space-pop orchestra,

S.P.O.C.K's clearly best produced album. Assignment Earth is clearer, poppier, more analogue and perhaps even more 80's style than SPOCK's earlier long play Alien Worlds. Assignment Earth is guaranteed hit songs with unforgettable lyrics and melodies. This record brings SPOCK from the undergroup synth-scene into the world of top charts. SPOCK has earned their success after their long 10 year mission on Earth. Live Long and Prosper!

Spock Albums are like Star Trek Movies and this is an odd #,

It seems like every other SPOCK album is good... just like the myth about Star Trek Movies. I love SPOCK but this is one of the bad SPOCK albums (album #3). I can't remember any of the songs on it being good. Allow me to explain in more technical terms. I'm a synth pop DJ and very little of this album is Synth Pop. While SPOCK is a wonderfully brilliant band... this album lacks the brilliant lyrics, synths, and pop structure that I like about them. For better songs, check out "Alien Worlds"(album #2) which is available on Amazon or if you really want an awsome album check out "SPOCK 1999"(album #4) which you can find on adifferentdrum.com or some other CD importer. In all honesty the 1st (5 Year Mission) and 5th (2001: A SPOCK Odyssey) SPOCK albums are actually sort of OK. I'd imagine this review is helpful to people trying to get their 1st SPOCK album.

Timeless S.P.O.C.K.,
By David Wills (Roanoke, Virginia USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Assignment: Earth (Audio CD)
Even though some might be put off by the "gimmick" S.P.O.C.K. is conceptualized by one cannot dismiss the intense poignancy and adhesive charisma of their music, which is quite a difficult feat in its commercially viable structure. What S.P.O.C.K. accomplishes in adherent melodicism, humourous wit and genuine artistic conceptualism (intentionally unpretentious in their bravado to attatch the gift of reserve and the charm of sci-fi symbolics, not a commonplace virtue in pop of any kind). This album is just one of the many timeless icons S.P.O.C.K. has enriched the genre of Synth Pop and all music in general with. Highly recommended.
