5.0 out of 5 stars Espionage Without the Filth!, April 9, 2011

This review is from: Assignment: Suspense; A Three Novel Omnibus: Above Suspicion. Horizon. Assignment in Brittany. (Hardcover)
Helen MacInnes is, since you asked me, the BEST in her field! She deals with the period of history which includes WWII and the Cold War. I thank Amazon for making her books available! I was introduced to this authoress in the 1980's and, since then have read all her books I could find. Most of them would have to be retrieved from the archived section of Houston, Texas' main library downtown, due to the change in morals of most Americans. Although I enjoy the technical information and the suspense, etc. found in Tom Clancey and other's writing, it became more difficult with each book to ignore his style of filth in language and other situations. In my opinion, none of this adds to a story but is disturbing to people who are still trying to use words with more than 4 letters. I do not expect to gain friends with this attitude, but I am able to keep my vocabulary clean. As to comparing the writing of Helen MacInnes and her contemporaies today, she is so far superior that if you read one of her stories, you will be "hooked!" From Texas, Barbara Sauls

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read., November 7, 2010

This three-novel collection is a great read for those who remember what espionage thrillers were like before the Cold War.Even escaping and evading the forces of evil was simpler somehow in those days...just as brutal, but simpler. Helen McInnes captures the history, the landscape and the people of wartorn France to give us three stories that are still page-turners 70 years later.
