Gr 10 Up-A collection of articles presenting the pros and cons of a complex and controversial issue. The introduction provides a brief history of assisted suicide, definitions of active and passive euthanasia, the status of legality in various states, an explanation of the "slippery slope" theory, and comments on the practice of euthanasia in the Netherlands. Individual chapters address both sides of legalization, ethics, constitutional rights, and the influence of assisted suicide on society as a whole. Each one includes at least four commentaries on each position. This well-balanced presentation provides points of consideration that require sophisticated readers. While the individual arguments show bias, taken collectively they allow young adults to view the subject from a broader viewpoint.-Janice C. Hayes, Middle Tennessee State University, Murfreeboro
