The 1-1/2-inch feed container walls feature narrow gaps at their connections so that a little seed spills onto the circular trough, enticing birds. This beautiful bird feeder is much heavier and sturdier than I expected. I easily assembled it myself. I live in a new subdivision and had not had many birds in my yard. I do now!
This feeder solved all the problems I'd had with other feeders; it holds a lot of seed, holds many different seed types so I can attract lots of birds, is sturdy enough to withstand strong winds, and is covered so the seed stays dry even after a thunderstorm.
I also ordered the matching angel fountain and 3 bird birdbath. I am very pleased with the quality and value.

This feeder is okay, but the pedestal is way too short - the feeder is only at the height of a standard bird bath. This makes for extremely awkward placement, not to mention the poor visual effect. Having two other pedestal feeders, I never imagined anyone would use such a short pedestal - live and learn, I guess. If Lowe's gets their pedestal feeder in the same style, buy that instead - as good a quality, a good total height of five feet and a spiked base to allow for firm seating.

I have owned this particular item for a couple of years. The first year, the "bird" fell off, deer opened each slot and ate the food. Last year it was so rusty I tempted to throw it away. My daughter is trying to restore it for sentimental reasons. I wouldn't advise anyone putting money in this item. No matter if you store it for winter, the rust still comes.
