Wow, That's all I can say. I only decided to write this review because i noticed this product had no ratings. I'm pretty everything that needs to be said about Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's X-Men run has already been written in numerous other reviews, but here is my two cents:

GET THIS BOOK. Well, this and the first one, you will not regret it. There have been a lot of great or above average X Men runs in the last few years, and a whole lot of unnecessary over bloated crossover events. While Grant Morrison's run on "New X-Men" was pretty good, it cant hold a candle up to this run. Apart from having unbelievable writing and great art, this story returns the X-men to a few core individuals without muddling the book with random characters who don't do too much for the story. I love how Whedon explores the relationship between Emma Frost and Scott Summers, while also exploring internal struggles of each character, for example, Cyclops dealing with his fears of being a inadequate leader. There is a lot of raw emotion in this book, and i love that kind of stuff. like i said in the title, this might be the best x-men arc ever, and for me, this is probably my favorite arc ever put out by Marvel Comics.

Finally, I'm not going to spoil anything, but let's just say the ending is one of the best ones I have ever read in comic books. Buy it for that alone!

Want to get somebody into comics? Buy them these 2 trades (Part 1&2 of Whedon's run). These cover the first 25 issues and the giant sized issue of Whedon's AMAZING run on Astonishing X-Men. I have the individual issues as I'm a collector, but if you want the story itself without spending $4-$6 an issue this is the way to go.

The story and the art are BOTH incredible and there's not a dull moment in the entire run. This is a great jumping on point for the new reader, or for getting back into comics. All your favorite X-Men are there, don't let the fact that it's not called "Uncanny" throw you off, Wolverine is making his wise cracks and Beast is the professor as always.

If this is your first foray into comics I suggest you read "Old Man Logan" after this. After reading these 2 stories I promise you'll be hooked on comics for life.

I love this run for all of the reasons that I love Whedon. It's dark but sometimes very funny, and the characters are all interesting. I also love that Kitty plays a major role, and I enjoyed the development that Agent Brand had as a character throughout the series. This volume started a little bit slow for me, but I loved it overall.

Best way to introduce a reader to xmen. Joss Wheadon is great in his story writing and the artwork is very good. The story spans worlds and galaxy's with a few favorite characters.

As a first time reader of comic books this series in particular peaked my curiosity further. I appreciated Whedon's Firefly comics and this is just as compelling.

Excellent story, great art. If you're looking for an xmen book that requires little continuity knowledge, pick up BOTH volumes of Whedon and Cassadays Astonishing X-Men.

I've been collecting Xman since issue 60 give or take and Whedon delivers, as expected, on writing reminiscent of Claremont's work. The art is solid the entire way through.
