My buddy is a barber and he taught me that using just a little bit of tea tree oil on your razor makes them a) last longer b) prevent razor bumps and c) work as a bit of a moisturizer if you get the right brand. I stole this brand TreeActiv+ Tea Tree Oil Acne Solution for Advanced Acne Treatment - All Natural Acne Spot Treatment - Blemishes Gone or Your Money Back! from my sister, but eventually wore down and bought my own because I like it so much. The tea tree oil works as an antibacterial product, preventing the mini-infections known as ingrown hairs. It also worked well with keeping my face smooth after I had finished shaving. Since the oil worked I also bought the TreeActiv Anti Acne & Rosacea Treatment Sulfur Mask Plus Rhassoul, Bentonite Clay Mask with Witch Hazel & Aloe Vera - Refreshing Lemon Scent (1 Jar) to use as a face scrub, and this essentially got rid of all my skin problems.Read more ›
Here's how to shave: Think of two possible end results: They are (to use the phrases you see on the forums) a “Baby's Butt Smooth” shave (BBS for short – 3 passes), and a “Socially Acceptable Shave” (SAS – 2 passes).
Are you getting married today? Consider doing a 3-pass BBS. For the other 99% of your life, do a 2-pass SAS shave.
Also (and this will sound like heresy to some): You don't need to use a shaving brush. Why? Because it's wasteful, and not worth the effort.
Most important things to remember:
- Hydrate your facial hair before cutting it. The best time to shave is after a shower – it is believed that human hair is harder to cut than copper of the same width. Hydrating the hair makes it way easier to cut.
- Keep your blade bone-dry between usages. Loosen the razor, dry the blade with a hair dryer, and keep it in another room away from moisture. Corrosion is the biggest factor in blade degradation.
Here is how I shave:
- On damp face, apply a light layer of fragrance-free Lubriderm Daily Moisture Lotion, Fragrance Free lotion (layer 1)
- Wet face with hot water (layer 2)
- With fingers, apply Kiss My Face Moisture Shave, Fragrance Free(layer 3)
- Make first pass. Remind yourself that this first pass is a rough draft.
-- I use a Merkur Long Handled Safety Razor (simple, easy to grip when wet)
-- Astra is my preferred blade, the best balance between sharpness and smoothness that I've found.Read more ›
I have a collection of about a dozen different de razors and a blade that works well in one razor may not work so well in another razor since each razor presents the blade just a bit differently than another razor. Just another of the variables you will encounter in wetshaving.
When I started wetshaving with a double edge razor I started with an Edwin Jagger DE89 razor and Merkur blades and used that one razor and one type of blade for about 6 weeks whilst developing my technique with this type of razor. Only then did I start trying different brands of blades. Some were worse, some were better. When I tried an Astra SP I was amazed at how smooth of a shave I was getting from these blades. I have tried Astra SP's in several different razors with varying results but always good results. One of my favorite combinations of razor and blade is a Gillette 40's style SuperSpeed razor with an Astra SP blade.Read more ›

These are great. I cant believe walmart, CVS and some walgreens have a 5 back on sale for $3-5. This was great, I got 200 and still have over half. Read morePublished 14 hours ago by Hugh C.

I use these blades everyday and they are as good as some of the more expensive blades I've used in the past. The edges stay sharp even after repeated use. Read morePublished 2 days ago by Tarun S.

Best double edged razor for the price and value. Feather blades are sharper, but harsher on my skin.Published 3 days ago by A. Tripp
