Disappointing release, September 29, 2004
This review is from: Astral Adventures (Audio CD)
Most people describe Darkseed as a band that used to play death metal but evolved into gothic/dark metal. The evolving of the band can be slightly compared to Paradise Lost. Being a fan since their third album Spellcraft, I think that Astral Adventures is a great disappointment. I personally think that until now every album that Darkseed released was an improvement over previous albums. Unfortunately Astral Adventures cannot even stand in the shadow of their previous album Diving Into Darkness. Although the sound of Astral Adventures is much better than on their previous albums, the songs are pretty weak. Two other negative aspects of the album are the fact that all songs sound alike and the vocals are uninspired. On Astral Adventures the vocals are monotonous. The vocals on Diving Into Darkness are much better even though it is the same vocalist. Luckily there are also some female vocals on the new album, because otherwise the album would be even weaker. To conclude: Astral Adventures is definitely not their best album. I suggest checking out previous albums like Spellcraft, Give Me Light and especially Diving Into Darkness, instead of this album.
