3.0 out of 5 stars Good, solid book but like everything is not for everyone
While I share the opinion of the many that like and praise this book, I also must point out that this book is not for everyone. The exercises described in the book may seem to be overcompicated and tough to do for some people. In reality Astral Projection is an innate skill for all humans, but the fear and other mental complications prevent us from doing it...

5.0 out of 5 stars THE book for learning astral projection!, November 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
This is the most helpful, most satisfyingly complete book I've read on any metaphysical subject. Robert Bruce's thorough attention to every aspect of astral projection leaves no question unanswered. Most guides to astral projection give a few techniques and leave the reader feeling helpless when those techniques don't work. Bruce, on the other hand, gives you not only the easiest and most effective projection techniques, but also energy, chakra, relaxation, and trance exercises that will, with time and practice, strengthen your ability to project. He tells you all of the common reasons for failing to project and how to fix the problems, and gives advice for dealing with things that can cause a projection experience to be unpleasant (such as fear and negative entities). He even describes dimensions above the astral, and how to attempt a higher-than-astral projection. Also, this book is not only for astral projection. Bruce's well thought out theories on astral physics and how projection works provide interesting reading for anyone who just wants to study the phenomenon of Out-of-Body Experiences. His instructions on relaxation and inducing trances can be used for meditation. Those interested in metaphysics/magic(k)/psi will find his energy and chakra exercises refreshingly effective. Astral Dynamics is just plain great. If you want to seriously try astral projection and are willing to do the practice necessary for it, get this book. It's probably the best book on the subject, and certainly the only one you'll need. Thank you, Robert Bruce!

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading for students of metaphysics., March 4, 2000
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
Robert Bruce has enjoyed spontaneous out-of-body experiences since childhood. As an adult, he learned how to project himself into the astral realm at will. He combines his experiences and more than twenty-five years of research in his newest book, Astral Dynamics: A NEW Approach to Out-of-Body Experience. NEW is capitalized because it stands for New Energy Ways, a technique for raising energy that Bruce developed. Projecting oneself from one's body requires high energy levels, and Bruce devotes significant portions of the book to energy skills. He emphasizes that persons who project themselves do not leave behind an "empty body" that can be harmed. Instead, "one full copy of thinking mind and memory--conscious and subconscious--stays at all times within the bounds of the physical body. . .this original or master copy never leaves the bounds of the physical body while it still lives." Nevertheless, it is important to prepare oneself first and establish a good foundation for safety before attempting an out-of-body projection. Bruce provides very detailed instructions for each step. Although most projectors have positive experiences, occasionally something negative can happen. He describes all these potential problems and how to overcome them. He also describes all the wonderful things that projectors can see while out of their bodies. Projectors can pass through solid objects, like walls. They can travel to the house next door or to galaxies beyond this one. They can search the Akashic Records. Advanced projectors can visit the spirit worlds. There doesn't seem to be any limit on where projectors can go or what they can do. Bruce says that "consciously projecting out of body is nowhere as difficult as commonly believed. It is simply a matter of deeply relaxing the physical body, clearing the mind, then triggering the projection reflex with an exit technique." He describes all the skills needed and provides exercises for developing those skills. After that, it's simply a matter of practicing until you're successful. He says his primary goal is "to create a user-friendly, readable and useful tutorial, guide, and reference work for all who aspire to travel out of their bodies." Readers of Astral Dynamics will find that his book easily meets that goal.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent manual into Astral Projection!, August 4, 2000
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
After reading the many positive reviews given here atAmazon.com, I figured I'd give this book a try and bought it (via Amazon.com/uk). I have previously read many books on this subject, all of which had some interesting viewpoints yet none of which helped me leave my body. I'll start out by saying that I read the entire work (530 pages!) in two days, hardly getting anything else done during this time. From the beginning onto the end, this book fascinates and inspires.

Robert Bruce is an amazing writer, guiding the student lucidly while entertaining the same throughout. He shares his self-professed knowledge and experience without ever touching shaky ground. A fresh, innovative, and reinvented methodology on the esoteric art of astral projection is what the reader is given, untainted by jargon or conventional dogma.

I have found many modern authors of the "occult" to be copyists and little more. Any innovations on technique attempted by these authors are usually nothing more than analytical theory based on already existing principles. Mr. Bruce kicks all of this out the door and defines anew a science based on PERSONAL EXPERIENCE - not play on words. This is rare indeed.

The book has six parts:

I) Elements of Projection - Incredible introduction into the theories of Astral Projection. He gives thoroughly sound theory on the mechanics of OBEs.

II) New Energy Ways - A practical guide to the most effective energetic-development process I have ever tried. I now incorporate this practice with my daily rituals, followed by the Middle Pillar and Circulation of the Body of Light. The difference in power generated is astounding!

III) Core Skills - A more traditional guide to developing the fundamentals of any psychic ability, such as relaxation and concentration.

IV) Projection Exit and Technique - The heart of Astral Dynamics, this part will definately get you out of your body as it has me, provided you give it all a whole-hearted effort. The techniques are very powerful!

V) The Akashic Connection - A wonderful description of the astral planes to keep you inspired until you experience it yourself, plus some mind-boggling theories.

VI) Strange Astral Phenomena - A troubleshooting-guide that will armor you against most eventual problems.

All in all this is THE book on the subject of Astral Projection, the object of which is up to you. There is literally no limit to the possibilities once this ability is mastered. For you magicians out there I can say Astral Projection is the door to ALL mastery beyond mere spell-casting. This book is the key.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muldoon for the Millenium, November 23, 1999
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
Those of us who are fascinated with astral projection would probably accept that the best book written during the 20th century on this absorbing phenomena was Sylvan Muldoon's "The projection of the Astral Body". It was one of the most comprehensive attempts to describe in considerable detail how to achieve an out of body experience and what to expect. Robert Bruce, who has for some years provided a spiritual service freely on the net, has finally produced a book which deservedly, in my view, will go down as the Millenium's worthy successor to Muldoon's effort. Robert goes into great detail concerning all aspects of astral projection, providing expanations for all the commonplace and, more importantly, puzzling phenomena that can arise during one's astral excursions. What has annoyed many projectors is the lack of knowledge concerning such aspects as "dual consciousness" and "lack of retained memory" concerning many out of body experiences. Robert Bruce has patiently and thoroughly investigated all these exciting although annoyingly common experiences and has provided the conceptual framework of "shadow memories" and "copies of consciousness" in the various inner bodies to account for them. What shines through is his desire to serve the enquirer and the whole text is written in a clear, coherent and emninently readable fashion which cannot necessarily be said for many well known primers on the topic. And this is so important - we need to have, not only the theory, but a practical guide in order to achieve full understanding concerning this spiritual activity which increasingly fascinates the general public. He also provides his "New Energy Ways" techniques in order to build up the necessary energy in order to achieve a prolonged and meaningful projection. There are also fascinating descriptions of astral phenomena; "Astral Wind", the "Astral Planes" and the huge amount of beings and perceptions which can occur ( and confuse) the beginning projector.A particularly touching and absorbing description is of his contact with his late son Jeremy who tragically died when quite young. I have no hesitation in recommending this as a worthy successor to Muldoon's classic. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Astral Travel Guide, January 8, 2001
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
Would you like to meditate in the farthest reaches of space, seek the ends of the universe, or visit a long-lost friend or family member? Have you ever longed to travel to realms full of beauty, music, knowledge and loving beings? Now you can. All you'll need to begin your adventures is to read a copy of Robert Bruce's excellent book, "Astral Dynamics".

Astral Dynamics may well be the best guidebook to astral projection (also known as out-of-body experience, or OBE) you'll ever read. Not only does Bruce take the reader through a step-by-step process (complete with pictures) of how to energize one's astral body and successfully master the core skills of astral projection, but he also includes delightful first-person accounts of what it feels like to travel out of body.

Bruce's book helps you learn how to achieve deep physical relaxation, tame your mind, and achieve a trance state before mastering the art of projecting your "etheric double". Bruce provides invaluable pointers such as keeping the first projections ultrashort, so that they can be remembered, and ignoring noises and other distracting hallucinations just prior to out-of-body travel.

I am especially impressed with Bruce's descriptions of common difficulties encountered by astral travelers, such as waking paralysis, spontaneous projection, getting stuck to one's body during exit, exit cramping or pain, saliva problems, and disorientation, among other things.

I love the way Bruce covers much more than just the basics of astral travel. He differentiates lucid dreaming from astral projection, and describes the technique of virtual reality projection whereby "the subconscious mind can be tricked into creating custom-made virtual realms" such as finding oneself inside the virtual world of a painting in the wall. Bruce also devotes chapters to the Akashic planes as well as what he calls "strange astral phenomena" such as reality fluctuations, melting body parts, vision reversal, OBE hitch-hikers and astral beings.

Astral Dynamics is a first-rate reference book that I love to come back to again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars "A precise oobe guide & reference work appears", January 7, 2000
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
After almost a century of written works on the out-of-body experience, finally a true masterpiece of research from actual experience appears. Robert Bruce of Australia goes into painstaking detail into all the facets of learning and achieving a conscious out-of-body experience. Alas, he doesn't stop there. Robert then narrates in detail the pitfalls and how to avoid them as well as fascinating descriptions of the many planes & sub-planes of the astral realm he has visited. If you only read one book on the subject...this is the one to read. Honestly! Plus, the book is over 500 pages long and it's not in large type.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must book for astral travellers, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
This book is one of the most complete works I have ever read about this subject. 559 pages of pure and intense experienced knoledge. I have corresponded with the author for a few times, way before astral dynamics was released. I have understanded that this is not a "quick made book", but a mature and elaborated work, based specially on personal experience. The unpretensious style of the writer made this book a light, but deep wonderful work. To the more advanced students, and even to those who have experience on astral travelling, this will always be a most interesting point of view and a compilation of explendid projection technics. I'm talking for my own. You, just read it and make your own impression. I have a large collection of Occult literature, some hundreds of works. This one is one of those wich I'll never forget the place in the closet. I deeply recomend this book to anyone of you who are in schools that mystify the astral trip and try to consider it as an exclusive right of the instructors. With this work, surely you will find out easily that it is not so, and that the astral voyage in the astral plane of the Kabbalistic world of Assiah is a goal that most of you can reach. My sincere thanks to the author.

Yes, the books turn pages by itself. When you sit down and start reading, you basically won't stop.

It's totally original ideas by Robert Bruce. The book is well organized. Also, terminologies were all understandable because he tries his best to use all western words in the book.

This book will take you from a beginner to a master level! I am not kidding. Amount of techniques in the book are overwhelming.

Ah..... here it comes, my book start turning its pages again! Gotta go!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is THE book!, June 14, 2002
This review is from: Astral Dynamics: A New Approach to Out-Of-Body Experiences (Paperback)
This is THE book! Robert Bruce did the terrific job by writing it! The sheer volume (550 pages) is unprecedented. It is the most detailed and insightful book I've read so far about OBE. I agree with the foreword's writer that it can become a classic on the subject. It could be difficult for the beginners, though, and is intended for serious students.
From the start, the author goes into depth of OBE business. There are no lengthy historical reviews and childhood memories (for those who interested in them, there is plenty of other sources).
The book is based on articles available for free on the Internet, but it is much more detailed and updated than the Internet version.
One novel thing in the book is the mind-split theory. This theory is quite original. It was so unusual to me that I think it actually distracts from learning the OBE. Maybe it takes time for one's mind to settle down and accept this theory. It is actually didn't receive a lot of support from other OBE experts, as far as I know.
The author put the main emphasis on the energetic aspect of OBE. I think that another aspect, the mind training, kind of goes to the back, and this could delay the OBE skill development.
There are few minor shortcomings in the book. First, there are so many exercises and advices, that it is easy to get lost in all this information. What is lacking is the structured course, or at least some guidelines for it, with timings and sequences of exercises. Luckily, this help is available from the Web, in the shape of The Astral Dynamics Workbook by Brian Mercer... But it would be nice if it were included in the book itself.
Another little weakness is the quality of illustration. Some of them look like made by a primary school student, not by a professional artist.
Overall, it is an excellent book, definitely many times worth the money.
