5.0 out of 5 stars One Again, Tim Reynolds shines
Astral Projections follows the same chemistry as Puke Matrix disc although it is a studio album so it gives Tim, Johnny, and Houston time to build and construct amazing songs. This disc is definitely not a relax album with each song building up your energy. I have always enjoyed Tim Reynolds work outside of playing with DMB. If you enjoy fat drum beat mixed with...

This disc is definitely not a relax album with each song building up your energy. I have always enjoyed Tim Reynolds work outside of playing with DMB. If you enjoy fat drum beat mixed with smooth bass lines, just add Tim's crazy guitar playing and you have one great CD! Thanks Tim for continuing with jaw dropping music and guitar playing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good. But Different., March 4, 2000

I got the Tim Reynolds + Dave Matthews "Live at Luther Colege" cd. I was amazed by how incredible Tim Reynolds was. He has a talent unlike anyone else I have ever heard. When I saw he had an album of his own I was quick to buying it. I couldn't wait to hear more songs like stream. When I got the cd I was almost dissapointed. I didn't expect Tim to be on an electric. I listened further to see how he was on the electric. He is pretty good, but I can't see why someone with the talent on an acoustic like him would make a electric cd. The songs on the cd are pretty good. The drummer is excelent. Tim has a jazzy voice wich is sort of cool. Some of the songs are a to screachy and not played out well. If you want to get a cool cd get this one. It's pretty good overall, but if you want to hear more songs like stream, then find bootlegs of Tim + Dave's concerts. The Febuary 14, 1999 one is excelent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastical Notes, December 7, 1999

This album is a must have for anyone who loves music and has an ear for modern tones and techniques. Tim Reynold's band is set up like a classic power trio (guitar/vocals, bass and drums), but what you get from these three artists is much more than you'd expext from such a line-up. Tim's playing pretty much surpasses anything I've heard especially in terms of his guitar tone which is creamy rich while at the same time being quite crushing (but not muddy), his style of playing also pretty much rips. His exquisite use and mastery of guitar effects and slide guitar further enhances the stuff he does (he samples while he plays which makes for some really cool layered sounds going on throughout a song). Furthermore he's got a unique voice (very bluesy with a slight edge of distortion at times). Also, Houston Ross lays down some really tight bass which pretty much locks in to Tim's playing. The intergration is powerful and moves the song (plus when I've seen him live he absolutely grooves). And John Gilmore is pretty much great, his drumming puts it together, holds it together, but still maintains its own integrity and stylistic nuances that can be heard clearly and are placed perfectly. What's important to me when listening to his music and when writing about it is the fact that it sounds and feels very much like what creative exploration is to me. This is what I believe makes his art so exciting and powerful. Check it out. I've recently seen Tim Reynolds touring for this album and all I can say is, wow. Tim if you're reading this...come back to Providence!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the acoustic Tim Reynolds, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Astral Projection (Audio CD)
As everyone else who isn't from Charlottesville, VA, I first heard of Tim Reynolds through the Dave Matthews Band. Yet, I have since discovered that Tim is an excellent artist and willing to go everywhere he possibly can to make different music. His work with Soko on the Offering is completely different from this and from his acoustic offerings. His acoustic albums are just what you would expect them to be, but this trio of musicians has made quite a heavy cd. It would be enjoyed by metalheads, punks, and classic rockers alike. Tim is always pushing the boudaries though, so listen to it more than once before you make up your mind.
