1.0 out of 5 stars Pseudoscience, September 1, 2008

Let's take a look at the author's claim:

Mark Beshara and "a team of physcologists" purportedly analyzed the behavoir of the brain when experiencing euphoric feelings. Then they claimed to recreate this behavior by duplicating the sound waves that trigger automatic Astral Projection.

Hold on a second. From the start I would like to know who the team of psychologists were and precisely what brain behaviors they were analyzing. In fact, I would also like to know how they made this analysis (I've read elsewhere that it was just through interviewing people). Next, how did we get to the assumption that certain sound waves trigger automatic astral projection? That's a non sequitur - one does not follow the other.

I've looked around quite a bit and I can't find any scientific literature pertaining to the experiments that lead to this recording. No literature validates the claim that listening to these sounds alters your brain waves, either.

Given how cheap the mp3 download is I went ahead and snagged a copy. It's 24 minutes long and comprised of 3 roughly 8-minute vignettes of repetitive noises. That's it.

Being a good scientist I listened to it twice with an open mind, but I felt no particular effect whatsoever. Of course, this doesn't prove that the claims are false but I certainly haven't found any science or experimental results to back up the claims. The fact that the Mark Beshara is "America's Favorite Mailing List Consultant" doesn't lend much credibility to his scientific claims either.

If you think that an mp3 can teach you to project yourself astrally, then by all means give it a shot. Just don't be fooled into believing that Mark Beshara is a scientist, or that any truly scientific experiment backs up his claims. Furthermore, I suggest that Mr. Beshara's attempt to mislead you with pseudo-scientific claims makes him an untrustworthy person to give your money to. I'm sure there are others who would sell you an mp3 for similar purposes. Try one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars 20+ years of use, September 28, 2008

This review is from: Astral Sounds (MP3 Download)
I've used this recording (in tape form) for more than 20 years. I recommend it very highly. I've used it to bring down fevers, for relaxation from tenseness between performances, and general relaxation from stress and tiredness. I have lent it to several friends who experienced irritation, but told them that they have to practice deep breathing in accordance with the first five minutes of beats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool To Help Self-Induce Astral Projection!, April 5, 2010
This review is from: Astral Sounds (Audio CD)
I had Astral Sounds on tape about 25 years ago. I'm very enthusiastic to find it again! It was from the American Research Team. The sounds themselves will not induce an astral projection without your help. You need to get involved with the process. Relax your body very deeply, which takes practice. Breathe deeply, gradually slowing and relaxing. Consciously achieving a border-line sleep state without falling asleep requires repetition for mastery. But if you understand the process these sounds are an excellent guide to achieving the proper state to project astrally. Having had spontaneous astral projections since childhood, I know that the one constant in the process is the music you hear when you are out of your body. These sounds are a close approximation of what that music sounds like at times. I would recommend Journeys Out of the Body by Robert A. Monroe or other works by this author if you want more information.

I urge you to not use head phones for listening if you are trying to astral project because of the hindering effect electromagnetic fields have on the astral body. Rather the use of a good robust pair of speakers some distance from each side of your head while you are lying down relaxing and listening at a loud but safely comfortable volume setting would be best. You'll know you're on the right track when you begin to feel vibrations in your head and/or body which, at times, can become very intense, also having feelings of rocking or spinning are common. Try not to be afraid when this happens, which is more easily said than done! Go with it, this is actually what you want to achieve. If inducing this state makes you feel "romantic", try to postpone those feelings until after your practice session is completed.

Even people who have had multiple spontaneous astral projections have to work hard to become proficient at inducing them at will. If you haven't had any astral projections, understand that you can be successful if you keep trying! Astral Sounds is the best auditory tool I've ever found.

Astral Sounds can also be used to induce deep relaxation. In this instance headphones may be very useful. I have found that listening to the repeating MP3 during sleep has helped me to dream more, and remember them better, while feeling very refreshed after sleep. I'd guess this is because the sounds deepen the level of sleep. The first part of the MP3 contains the relaxation clicking sounds that help achieve deep relaxation. Unfortunately the more useful astral sounds are not part of the audio sample. This product is definitely worth its small price tag!
