Astro Boy is an easy, relatively short game that is suitable for all ages.

The game consists of ten sequences, all of which pit the title character against robot foes. The boss fights are not difficult (although the final boss fight is no pushover), and they usually end up with the defeated opponent realizing the error of his ways. There are plenty of Save points as well as Pause capability. Automatic leveling follows most boss fights. As the story progresses, Astro gains new weapons to use against his foes.

The story is pleasant kiddie adventure fare, and like any superhero story, focuses a lot on Astro's mega-horsepower strength. From the first battle onward, robotic bullies seem obssessed with picking fights with the pint-sized robot for no reason other than to see how strong he is. Astro doesn't lack for pride either: whenever he levels up, he will assume one of his he-man stances, flexing his muscles.

The dialogue is fairly minimal, mostly battle exclamations and distress calls from Yuko assigning him to a new mission. The voice actors come from the TV series on Warner.

Like many video games, Astro Boy has its camera problems. It is terribly slow and really impractical for finding opponents during a battle. It also gets blocked by scenery, forcing you to move Astro around to get the camera back on him.

I found the graphics, music, and overall artistic design very satisfactory. I've seen the 1960s anime series, and I much prefer the modern color rendition. This game has definitely gotten me interested in checking out the 2003 TV series. The "heavy" objects that Astro lifts to obtain Cards seemed a bit unrealistic though. When Astro sets them back on the ground, they tend to rock around a bit like they were cardboard.

In addition to the main story, the game also features 85 hidden Character Cards. Most of them are quite easy to get; I found 80 of them in only two days. The remaining five involved completing flying courses which are located throughout the city. For some reason, I was never able to collect these Cards even after successfully completing a course. It may have been a glitch in the game disc.

I don't really understand the negative reviews. I've read another review from a parent whose kid plays this every day. I've never played any Sonic games, so I can't make that comparison. But this game certainly stands on its own.

Because of the game's brevity (only a few hours of gameplay), I would probably recommend a rental prior to purchase.

Overall, I was very satisfied with this game.

I had fun playing it....I bough it for really cheap...I mean its not the best game in the world, and its only worth it if you can find it for under $10, but for what I payed for it, it was really fun

I think this game is good for kids it may be rated E but is has cartoon violence in it. That boy can fly. I love this game.

The fun part of this Astro Boy game is seeing an anime character, the first series to come to U.S. television in the 1960's, in an action game. I can't say the game is difficult and not repetitious, but it is fun to play.

This game looks like it will be fun with all of the flying and big boss fights.But it does look like it's going to be repetitive.All you reall y do the whole game is fly or walk around killing every robot you see.You do have powers but there the same thing that we've always seen like heat vision.One good thing about the game is that you can pick up items like lamp postes and use it to beat up your enemys.I wouldn't go out and pay full price for this game without trying it first,you may want to give this one a rental and see how you like it.
