5.0 out of 5 stars great tool for the new energy!
Author M. Karen gives many ways to break-free of the old paradigm boundaries and become our fullest self. This book uses astrology to point the way to living our potential. It's a great reference book to keep handy as you move into news ways of thinking and being.

2.0 out of 5 stars Astrology for Endarkenment?
I picked up this book at the library as a little light reading before I dig into my income tax return, and as I do with such books, I flipped through it rather than reading it from cover to cover. But that was enough to uncover at least one serious gaffe.

I'm an an Aries, and I know that the symbol for Aries, a ram, is a male sheep. Apparently Ms. Karen...

5.0 out of 5 stars Answers, December 14, 2008

Wonderful!
This book answers many questions for the future and spiritual enlightenment. Ms Karen's thousands of hours of research, calculation and writing has surely proven to be a guide to the answers to questions of what lies ahead, especially in a world viewing the year 2012 (The end of the Mayan Calender)with an eye toward destruction or enlightenment.

She brings us confidence that the doomsayers are wrong and that the world will become a nicer, more spiritual place. She tells us we can look to the future with optimisim and belief in the strength of love.

I so enjoy and believe in her and her book, that I purchased twelve of them with an intent to give away eleven as Christmas presents to my friends whose spirits rise above all calamities.

Thank you, Ms. Karen

D. June

I've read/have as reference guides so many astrology books and this is one of my favourites. It gives a good overview for someone who is less familar with astrology....but also provides details which, after 30 years of astrology, I had no idea about and found really insightful.

What I liked most though was Michelle's insight and hope/approach to the future...she writes so clearly and gives us and our planet real hope about the upcoming shifts in our Universe and lives (but in a very grounded, makes-sense kind of way)....

Highly recommend it...it'll definitely be in my permanent collection for years to come..

Mel

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Outstanding Book!, July 16, 2009
This review is from: Astrology for Enlightenment (Paperback)
Every once in a while a book comes along that is truly outstanding in its field. "Astrology for Enlightenment" is one of these special books. Author Michelle Karen showcases her in-depth knowledge and writing skills in presenting a unique new and captivating perspective of Astrology. She skillfully interweaves basic astrological principles with refreshingly innovative ways to apply Astrology to specific aspects of our daily lives. This book is both informative and enlightening. I recommend it highly. Elliott Maynard,Ph.D., Arcos Cielos Research Center, Sedona, Arizona.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only Astrology Book Worth Having, March 28, 2010

This is, like the title says, the only astrology book worth having. Others will give you pages of descriptions about the Leo/ Scorpio/ Gemini personality, and every one of them is the same. But this will give you interesting lists of cities, states, countries, foods, herbs, flowers, trees, occupations, hobbies, for each sign. It basically divides up everything under the Sun (and orbiting the sun!) and assigns it a zodiac sign. Some might not enjoy this as much as I, but I found it fascinating. It also tells you which days are ruled by which planet, and even which hours are ruled by each planet! It turns astrology into something you can apply to anything in your life. It got me absolutely obsessed with astrology for 4 months (at a healthy level now!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Astrology for Endarkenment?, April 1, 2009

I picked up this book at the library as a little light reading before I dig into my income tax return, and as I do with such books, I flipped through it rather than reading it from cover to cover. But that was enough to uncover at least one serious gaffe.

I'm an an Aries, and I know that the symbol for Aries, a ram, is a male sheep. Apparently Ms. Karen is not aware that there is no such thing as a female ram, unless maybe she's talking about a transgender ram! Now, maybe this error is due to the fact that English is apparently a second language for the author, but really! Knowing what a ram is is just basic zoology.

Secondly, Ms. Karen makes a big deal about purifying the body of toxins with enemas and fasts, yet she apparently thinks it's just fine to eat toxin-loaded animal flesh (to her credit, she does advise against eating dairy). Maybe this is due to her Finnish/French background, because those two cultures encourage the consumption of a lot of meat. She throws in a few gratuitous comments about the cruelty of animal farming and how eating raw, organic (plant-based) foods is best, yet she says nothing about how bad meat is for one's health and ethics. It seems to me that if she just avoided eating animal flesh, she wouldn't have so many toxins in her body in the first place and she wouldn't need to fast! Also, she talks about the disappearing bees ascending to another plane, yet advises that we eat honey, which involves the systematic killing of bees. It just doesn't make sense to me ethically. If you really want to evolve spiritually, you've got to go vegan and leave those bees alone.

Ms. Karen also talks about the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012. If you spend any time on the Internet you've probably heard ad nauseum of this much-anticipated event, or transition, or whatever it's supposed to be. She makes it sound a lot like the New Age version of The Christian Rapture, where the "good" people will be lifted up to Heaven and the "bad" people have to stay behind to fight with each other--something like that. IMO, it's pretty unlikely. Anyway, Ms. Karen has taken 2012 and run with it by combining traditional astrology with the Mayan calendar, or so she says, to come up with a whole bunch of predictions for each sign for the next few years. It's interesting reading and shows she has a very creative mind, but I wouldn't plan my life around the predictions she offers.

There were a few fun finds, e.g., some of the U.S. towns she lists for Aries are places I've either lived in or thought about living in. That was true for the Aries countries as well. So checking this book out wasn't a total loss, as long as you take it with a big lump of salt. I give it a 2.5.
