Book Description

September 1, 1993
Originally published in 1945, this easy to understand beginners guide is an in depth investigation of astrological symbolism. It demystifies astrological prediction, and relates theoretical understanding to the experience and practical concerns of the reader. At each stage of the book, Dr Jones anticipates and answers the readers' questions, so that the explanation of the houses, signs and planets of the horoscope becomes a guide that even a beginner can understand and apply. Every element of the horoscope is illustrated in terms of everyday living, and each technical detail is lucidly explained. From the most specific human concerns to the universal, topics discussed include: Twelve Tribes of Individuality; Basic Factors of Delineation; The Houses, Signs and Planets; The Magic of the Hemispheres; and, The Divinity of Difference. This classic text has demonstrated its value in serving the needs of students and friends of astrology for almost 50 years.

4.0 out of 5 stars That other review just might be Wrong, September 7, 2003

Sorry, but astrology does "work", and if you read this book you would understand that. It "works" because of the grand interconnectedness of all life and the fact that we are all oscillating holographic interference patterns of gravitationally trapped Light. It works because of "As above, so below". It works because our bodies are more than 70% percent water and no one would argue that the tides of the ocean are affected by the cycles of the moon. It works because Michel Gaugelin, a French statistician, who set out to disprove astrology once and for all ended up finding strong statistical correlations between the signs and occupations and studied astrology for the rest of his life; he also wrote a book, "Cosmic Influences on Human Behavior". It does NOT mean you believe in Fate or predestination, only that in your first earthly breath, you took in certain strengths and weaknesses and foreknowledge of such aids in developing your God-given strengths and off-setting your weaknesses. For those who understand, no explanation is necessary; for those who don't, none will suffice. So be it.

This book is not easy to read: Jones' writing style is dense. But I can say that after almost 40 years of astrology study, I can re-read this one and get more out of it.

I'm not even going to step into the silliness below.

Astrology does not work, so a book purporting to explain how it does must be all wrong. Look instead at some of the excellent books that debunk this nonsense, like Science confronts the paranormal, ed. K. Frazier; The Gemini syndrome: a scientific evaluation of astrology, by Culver and Ianna; Pseudoscience and the paranormal, ed. T. Hines; and Paranormal borderlands of science, ed. K. Frazier, all published by Prometheus Books.
