5.0 out of 5 stars A warm welcome for astrology-newbies, October 13, 1997
This review is from: Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain (Paperback)
If you have recently begun staring at the night-sky in your backyard, secretly wondering if the stars really do hold some sort of new way of looking at life's little ups and downs, but you're not really a "new-age" type....then this is the book to pick-up. Kim Rogers-Gallagher introduces you to astrology through her wonderful playfullness and great sense of humor. Finally, a book for those of us who are curious, but would never tell anyone! Kim lets us enter the astrological community as just a "tourist", yet makes us feel like we've always been there. She will tickle your funny bone while imparting actual astrological fundamentals, so that you might "stun and amaze" your friends with your new-found astrology accumen!

The back of the book gives great information on additional astrological resources such as books, magazines, associations, software and more!

Keep an open space next to this book on your library-shelf, for "Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain" might make you want to "Read More About It"!

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST for learning and understanding., October 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain (Paperback)
This is the best book I have ever read about astrology. It is so interesting I couldn't put it down until I was finished with it. She puts astrology into a language that everyone can relate with and therefore it's fun and easy to understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" for Newcomers and Teachers, December 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain (Paperback)
I am a professional astrologer who is just starting to teach. This book provides newcomers and teachers with solidly funny metaphors upon which to hang the astrological jargon.

I love the author's style and clear thoughts. She teaches the "sentence approach to astrology" which enables even newcomers to quickly put together planet with house with sign with aspect.

I have found my textbook!

This was a book I wish I had read way back in the beginning. I highly recommend this book to be read before you pick up any other astrology book. So easy to follow, light, funny. Just a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars funny... and insightful!, January 19, 2005

i find some of the astrology books which try to take on a playful and funny tone can be dumb, and fall short of the mark in terms of content. not so with Kim Rogers Gallagher! she is the master of "light-hearted" astrology.. this book is informative and very insightful!

there is a part of AFTLSOTB which pops into my head all of the time. Pets.... and where they belong. As both and astrology and pet lover myself,I would like to weigh in on this issue. Intuitively, I'd say the 5th, where loves, children, creativity, and play goes. Pets in my family are like little friends/ family, and my dog definitely sparks my creativity. Also, the after work walk is what breaks up my day -- right in between work (6th house) and home (4th house): the 5th house.
I think the single down-side with pets is that their lives are too short, so we can only have them for a limited number of years. This would also be the down-side of our other 5th house experiences -- childhood, love affairs, play time.

anyway, if you are looking for a fun and funny beginner's astrology book, this one is tops. i also like the sequal, which deals with transits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Introductory-Book PLUS some Recommendations, July 20, 2011

This review is from: Astrology for the Light Side of the Brain (Paperback)
This is a true beginner's introductory book on astrology... one that is excellent and that I highly recommend, (see Pics).

Kim gives a very simple overview of the Planets, Houses, Signs, and Aspects and how they all go together. And she does so in such a light-hearted, (and verbally entertaining), way that any lay-person can easily understand what's-what about the basics of astrology.

I'm a professional astrologer, and have given this book countless times as a gift to those who express an interest in astrology; the latest being my 16-year-old niece who wanted to know where to begin.

Kim makes learning the basics of astrology fun because she is consummately funny in her expressive writing and will have you hooked before you know it. This book is a joy to read and will have you laughing in no time.

Astrology is a daunting subject simply because it is so complex... it's not exactly 'hard to learn', rather, that there is SO MUCH to learn... astrology goes very, very deep. And, as everything is symbolic, it's exactly like learning a new language such as higher mathematics or physics. Because of this, finding the right introductory book has been, itself, a daunting task.

But Kim has taken care of that... even after all these years, there has yet to be published a beginner's book that can usurp Kim's magnum opus. Many have tried, but all have failed to knock her off her rightful place on every astrologer's shelf... even if it's just there to give away to some fresh-faced astro-newbie! *lol*

Well, I might as well give my further recommendations since Kim's is a beginner's book and I assume that whoever is reading this may very well want to follow astrologer-Kim down the rabbit-hole, *lol*. These are the absolute musts and will serve to keep you busy for quite some time, *vbs*. All can be gotten here at Amazon or at Astro-America.

I am enjoying this book enormously! Kim Rogers-Gallagher makes astrology not only fun, but captivating. Written in an informal, engaging style, the author uses examples that make sense in an every-day context and seem to hit on the kernels that help get the learner from one topic to the next without feeling overwhelmed. One thing that strikes me as making the most sense is how the book is organized, with parts of the chart explained in a sequence that fits my personal learning style. Thinking of some parts of the chart as parts of a real house helped me grasp the concepts, as did some of the phrases used in popular songs. I know I'll be referring back to this book for years.
