Star is a professional astrologer and the author of several self-help books on using astrological potential. In this book, she shows how best to develop mental capabilities and intuition, create the most comfortable home, and open the heart in work and creativity. She shows which unhealthy tendencies a person is likely to encounter and what one needs to do to move beyond them and reach full potential. Star also touches on the power issues of sex, money, and control and how best to utilize the energy of the planets to gain what is really important. Star addresses phases of the moon and the position of Chiron in the birth chart, issues not often addressed in other sources. This book assumes that the reader already knows how to read an astrological chart. The chart interpretations are accurate and insightful. About the Author

An internationally renowned astrologer, author and teacher, Gloria  has been a professional astrologer for over two decades. She has written written the Sun Sign Book for Llewellyn since 1990, and has been a contributing author of the Moon Sign Book since 1995.  Her most recent work, Astrology: Woman to Woman,  was released by Llewellyn in April 1999.   She is the author of Optimum Child: Developing Your Child's Fullest Potential through Astrology, now translated into four languages.  She also edited and co-authored the book Astrology for Women: Roles and Relationships (Llewellyn 1997).  Her astrological computer software, Woman to Woman, was released by Matrix Software in 1997.  Ms. Star has contributed to two anthologies --  Houses: Power Places in the Horoscope (Llewellyn 1990),  and How to Manage the Astrology of Crisis (Llewellyn 1993).
Listed in Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the East, Gloria is active within the astrological community, where she has been honored as a nominee for the prestigious Regulus Award.  She has served on the faculty of the United Astrology Congress (UAC) since its inception in 1986, and has lectured for groups and conferences throughout the U.S.A. and abroad.

This book is easy to read but it lacks example chart interpretations. While I could calculate how my Mercury can be quincunx to my Saturn, it would have helped if I could see a picture of such planetary positions. In addition, I found the book to be helpful in a general sort of way, but it did not offer much practical advice. Still, it was nice to have women-oriented astrological interpretations, although they were rather weakly expressed. Despite the above criticism, I liked the book for its detailed explanation of each planet and each of its position towards other planets in simple, friendly language.

A lot of astrology books favor predictions and statements that hint of determinism. What makes this book particularly unique is that the author provides readers with gentle guidance, just something to think about and to be aware of as we go on our way. I felt as if I actually had a choice regardless of my planetary positions.
