5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible journal of a person in a strange environment.., May 7, 1997

This review is from: An Astronaut's Diary (Paperback)
The difference between this book and other astronaut books is that Hoffman has transcribed personal audio tapes he was making up to and during his first flight into space. You are right there with him, sharing his fear, exhilaration and wonder as he is shot into a strange, new environment, with incredible sights and unusual sensations. But throughout, Hoffman gives you a sense of a normal person slowly adjusting to this new place- not a 'Right Stuff' hero, but a person much like you and me, reacting as we would to being taken far outside of our lives for a few short days. I had been looking for this book for ten years before I found it through Amazon, and it was just as good as I had always imagined. This book is the nearest most of us will get to exoeriencing the wonder of space exploration. I cannot recommend it enough. .(Francis French)
