From Booklist

French cartoonist Trondheim deserves to be far better known on these shores. NBM is doing its best to bring that about with a spate of translations of his impressively diverse output. This example begins as a witty, gentle tale of two precocious youngsters, Gil and Martina, whose estrangement from their classmates and parents leads them to conclude that others are either, as Martina insists, aliens, or, according to Gil, robots. Initially wryly depicting the loneliness and alienation of brainy children and their joy at discovering simpatico souls--think Calvin and Hobbs meets To Be and to Have--the story suddenly swirls into an outrageous but compelling science-fiction epic. In Astronauts, Trondheim teams with artist Larcenet, whose mode is a bit rougher and less elegant than Trondheim's style but well suits Astronauts' blending of humor and adventure, especially after the pace picks up. Those who go for Astronauts' sophisticated humor and wild imagination should be curious about Trondheim's other work. May NBM publish more of it. Gordon Flagg

5.0 out of 5 stars You must love Lewis Trondheim!, June 16, 2010

That's an order.

I've at least liked, and probably loved, everything I've read from him, and this is no exception. It's fun, reminds of Calvin and Hobbes in places, reminds how grown up and smart kids can be, and has more twists than a super-sized soft serve.

I'm stingy with 5 stars. This one's a no-brainer. Grab it. Read it. Dig it. Pass it on.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wild ride, November 17, 2005
This review is from: Astronauts of the Future (Paperback)
The seeming tale of 2 smart teenage social outcasts taking on the world evolves into a convoluted journey through time, space and deceit. Matrix-esque with much fun. And now, I am a Trondheim fan.
