Book Description

March 30, 2007

This edition contains three books in its covers: Zodiacal Course, Esoteric Treatise of Hermetic Astrology, and The Manual of Practical Magic.

In the first two books, Samael Aun Weor gives a complete discourse on the nature of Astrology. In today's world, the true nature and application of this science has been forgotten completely. In these works, Samael Aun Weor sheds the light of wisdom upon a science that is as ancient as the universe.

In the third book, Samael Aun Weor gives the secrets of Theurgy, White Magic, which is the science of influencing nature s phenomena in the internal and external worlds under the guidance of Divine Will and Intelligence.

"The hour to abandon theories and to go directly to what is practical has arrived."(Samael Aun Weor)

About the Author

"We, the bodhisattvas of compassion who love humanity immensely, state: as long as there is a single tear in any human eye, as long as there is even one suffering heart, we refuse to accept the happiness of Nirvana. We must seek the means to become more and more useful to this wretched, suffering humanity." (Samael Aun Weor, The Major Mysteries)

Samael Aun Weor wrote over sixty books, gave thousands of lectures, and formed the worldwide Gnostic Movement, whose members number in the millions. Though these accomplishments are certainly impressive by any standard, they are merely the pale terrestrial reflection of the work he accomplished internally, spiritually. And yet, in spite of his wisdom and generosity towards mankind, he said:

"Do not follow me. I am just a signpost. Reach your own Self-realization."

His lifelong mission was to deliver to humanity the total and exact science required by anyone of any religion, race, culture or creed who wishes to fully and completely develop as a human being. The path he taught is the Path of the Bodhisattva, that mysterious and ancient wisdom long hidden in the bosom of every great religion.

"It is necessary to study our own "I" if we really love our fellowmen. It is indispensable to comprehend that only by putting an end to the factors of egotism and cruelty (that each one of us carries within) can we create a better world, a world without hunger and fear. Society is the individual. The world is the individual. Therefore, if the individual fundamentally changes, the world will inevitably change. The consciousness is in critical danger and only by radically transforming ourselves as individuals can we save ourselves and save humanity." (Samael Aun Weor, The Revolution of the Dialectic)

We dedicate this course of esoteric education to humanity and especially to all those who are disillusioned by schools, religions, lodges, and sects. This course of intimate self-education and true practical knowledge is for them. There are two types of knowledge: The Eye Doctrine and the Heart Doctrine. The Eye Doctrine is for those who are satisfied with spiritual theories and the Heart Doctrine is for authentic initiates. To the Eye Doctrine belong all the members of the so-called spiritual schools and their concepts are as variable as is the opinion of writers. To the Heart Doctrine belong all the masters of the Universal White Fraternity because the primeval truths of this unique knowledge are enclosed within it. The Eye Doctrine comes to us through deduction and the Heart Doctrine through intuition. The Eye Doctrine is human; it is produced by the intellect. The Heart Doctrine is divine; it is produced by the Internal Master. The Eye Doctrine fortifies the mind. Our mind is the abode of desire; it thinks, reasons, analyzes and wants to resolve everything by itself without taking into consideration the voice of the Internal Master. Therefore, the mind arrives at erroneous conclusions and leads us to erred actions. The Internal Master does not analyze or reason because his voice is the voice of intuition. The Heart Doctrine opens up the doors to the Hall of Knowledge. Schools have already given all they have to offer. The centers of knowledge are now converted into business places, each with its own tyrant that forbids its adepts and students to go out in search of knowledge; the prohibitions here, the excommunications and threats there, always leaving things for tomorrow, making a big issue out of the password, the protective amulets, the non-plus-ultra..., of the secrets that no other school possesses. We are not looking for flatterers of masters nor are we interested in hard-hearted henchmen. We are guiding pillars, so do not become attached to us because our mission is not to gather up followers. We indicate with logical thought and exact concept the path to follow so that each person arrives at his Internal Master (he who lives in silence within you). --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

More About the Author

The name Samael Aun Weor is Hebrew (סםאל און ואור) and is pronounced "sam-ayel on vay-ohr." Samael Aun Weor wrote over sixty books, gave thousands of lectures, and formed the worldwide Gnostic Movement, whose members number in the millions.

His lifelong mission was to deliver to humanity the complete path toward the realization of the inner Being, or in other words, the total and exact science required by anyone of any religion, race, culture or creed who wishes to fully and completely develop the human soul. The path he taught is the Path of the Bodhisattva, that mysterious and ancient wisdom long hidden in the bosom of every great religion.

"For as long as space endures
and for as long as the world lasts,
may I live dispelling the miseries
of the world."
- From The Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life by Santideva

Samael Aun WeorThe Bodhisattva Path, also known as the Straight Path, is taken by very few. While many aspire to the Light, the vast majority take the easier Spiral Path, which is accomplished over a much longer period. The walker of the Straight Path is rare because that road is bitter, painful and filled with terrors. Embodied in the life story of Jesus of Nazareth, the Path of the Bodhisattva is a path of crucifixion and suffering on behalf of others.

"The straight path, the upright course of action, the eightfold path, conducts us from the darkness to the light. Thus, this is what Christ meant when he said to us: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6

"Those who renounce the happiness of Nirvana because of their love for mankind, those who have the body or vehicle of solar transformation, the Nirmanakaya, are the authentic Bodhisattvas, who indeed walk along the straight path; they know the word of the Lord.

"Regarding myself, concerning me, I am a walker of the straight path; thus, I teach the doctrine related with the straight path for those who want to go on the straight path. As to those who do not want to go on the straight path, well, I'm sorry, but the moment at which they have to define themselves will come: then, to those who choose the Spiral Nirvanic Path, we, the ones who follow the Straight Path, have to say "good-bye," because we go towards the Absolute!" - Samael Aun Weor

Clearly, the Path taught by Samael Aun Weor is a radical departure from the teachings of the Spiral Path, and is even more sharply opposed to the far more common teachings of the Baalim, or Lunar Path. Thus, the student, when encountering Gnosis for the first time, is often shocked, outraged, or offended, because these teachings contradict much of what we believe or hold dear. Upon closer study, it will be discovered that Gnosis is indeed the Doctrine of the Synthesis, the expression of the Universal Wisdom in the heart of every religion. What is in conflict with Gnosis are the ideas and interpretations of mankind. Truth is One; it is the mind we have within which degenerates that Truth into opinions, dogmas, politics and wars.

As a vibrant embodiment of the Bodhisattva ideal, which renounces all self-interest and seeks instead to benefit others, Samael Aun Weor rejected any notion of personality worship or the attachments of followers. Throughout his life, many thousands of students projected onto him their ideals and their needs, and this continues to this day. While many worship him and make Gnosis into just another system of belief, his own message is very clear: the only Master we should follow is our own inner Divinity. To reach that inner Divinity, we must remove from our mind mere belief: we must instead study the path as taught by all the great teachers of humanity, and put those teachings into daily practice.

Perhaps most remarkably, what he wrote and taught was not mere theory: unlike most authors (especially those who write about religion and spirituality), he taught from personal experience.

"There are authors who write marvels, but when one looks at them, one realizes that they have not lived what they have written; they did not experience it in themselves, and that is why they are mistaken. I understand that one must write what one has directly experienced by oneself. I have proceeded in this way on my part." - The Initiatic Path in the Arcana of Tarot and Kabbalah (1978)

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally some Practical Astrology!, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Astrotheurgy: Gnostic Astrology, Initiatic Kabbalah, and the Awakening of the Consciousness (Perfect Paperback)
Modern Astrology is mostly rubbish and written for the entertainment of wishful thinkers, there is little that is practical in any of it. Samael Aun Weor comes to the rescue of this problem with his wonderful work entitled "Astrotheurgy."

This book is 100% practical. Samael Aun Weor gives exercises for each sign of the zodiac to be performed during the sign's period. He also gives a clear and precise explanation of each sign, as well as the influences that govern individuals from each sign.

The publishers were kind enough to include two more of Samael's works into this one book (a 3 in 1). The second part of this work goes into further detail of the signs of the zodiac and the third part gives practical exercises for practicing White Magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Profoundly Powerful, December 21, 2011

This review is from: Astrotheurgy: Gnostic Astrology, Initiatic Kabbalah, and the Awakening of the Consciousness (Perfect Paperback)
This is the 3rd book by the V.M.Samael. The first version was mimeographed in June of 1951 before coming out in book form shortly thereafter.

Essential, each chapter of this book is a monthly exercise corresponding to one of the 12 houses of the zodiac. For each house, correspondences are given for which part of the body this sign rules, associated metal, stone, perfume, plant, flower, planet, element, key word, day and Ruler of the planet.

The V.M.Samael tells us in the beginning pages "We dedicate this course of esoteric education to humanity and very especially to all those disillusioned of schools, religions, lodges and sects; theirs is this course of intimate self-education and true practical knowledge. There are two types of knowledge: The Eye Doctrine and the Heart Doctrine. The eye doctrine is for those who are satisfied with spiritual theories and the heart doctrine is for authentic initiates. To the eye doctrine belong all the members of the so-called spiritual schools...."

From the book `Encounter with Samael' by Rafael Vargas & Javier Casan pg 174, the main points that these men of esteem point out to us, regarding the `Zodiac' book, are the following points:

"In the Zodiacal Course there are very interesting teachings that we must always bear in mind...The heart is the most sensible organ of our organism. Within these fine membranes of the heart even the furthest seismic movements of the world are recorded.

Careful of false prophets; do not accept external masters in the physical. Learn to go out in the astral body and, when you are then experienced in the astral, choose an authentic Master of Major Mysteries from the White Brotherhood and consecrate to him the most absolute devotion."

Lastly, we are admonished to look at those who surround us and cautioned to not associate with those full of hatred and superficiality, which only bring destructive forces in our lives.

I personally am in absolute agreement with the V.M.Samael regarding his introductory words looking at the heart verses the mind. In relation to this book, it is essential. I once heard someone give a lecture on this book. From memory, most of this lecture detailed the correspondences that I mentioned above. Even while listening to the lecture I found it impossible to record all that was being said. This book, as stated by the V.M.Samael is not about the intellect. This book is about the practices that are in this book. Not until reading the book for myself did I have an appreciation of this fact. Additionally, once again, my awe for the V.M.Samael was further increased. One can be within a Gnostic group for years and not fully appreciate the awesomeness of the V.M.Samael i.e. your work is supremely benefited by reading the books. Selah.

Reading this book and looking at the exercises, I had two additional, major realizations. To put these exercises into practice would be explosive to one's inner spiritual work. Second, this is a book that I have intuitively been looking for, for many years i.e. it taps us into spiritual powers of a positive nature producing real effects. Let us not forget that this is not about power, but about the initiatic processes of destroying the egoic structure and liberation.

One would have to do these exercises to comprehend my words. The exercises require faith. Also, bear in mind that the true masters are not deceived i.e. they see the hearts intent with absolute clarity. My recommendation is always to find a living Gnostic school, I say this also in connection with practicing the exercises of this book, especially for those just starting out.

I read this book on my computer in PDF format. I have not read the other two books as yet, but will endeavor to return to this review and add my insights regarding the other 2 books contained within Astrotheurgy.

The `encounter with Samael; reveals to us that the `Zodiacal' book was written somewhere between the first and second initiation of Major Mysteries of the V.M.Samael.
