Update 8/7/14: All of the boards I have been receiving recently are shipping with the 0904 BIOS, which resolved most of the glitches with this board. I'd still recommend upgrading to the newest version, which as of today is 2001, a version that also eliminated my gripe with the installation issues, since it includes a stand-alone installer that doesn't require that I install ASUS bloatware. I never bother with the drivers on the CD that comes with the board, I make sure to get the latest drivers from the ASUS website before starting my OS install, which has also elimiated a lot of the hassle. In all, I've stuck with this board for a while now, building a couple of dozen systems with it, and I am happy with it. Upgrading from 3 to 4 stars.

Original review: I've built several systems using these motherboards and they've appeared to be pretty decent and durably made. The driver installation disk isn't as convenient as the ones that come with Intel motherboards that I'm so used to, but they get the job done. I've used this board on several systems, and I've had some common problems, including issues with USB devices not working, VGA issues, and system freezups. The solution on all of them was to install an update to the BIOS. All the boards I've received have had the 0401 revision BIOS on it, which is the original, buggy one from 6/3/2013. Upgrade to 0604 (8/30/13) to fix the issues. Unfortunately, there are several ways to install the BIOS upgrade, but the only way that actually works is to install the ASUS AI-Suite software in Windows with the EZ-Update component, and manually point it to the .CAP file you download and unzip from the ASUS website.

I used this board to build an HTPC with an Intel i3-4130T chip and I'm reasonably happy with it. It seems like a solid board and everything worked the first time through. My only complaint is that their install disk contained unnecessary bloat. I was disappointed that clicking on the "Install All Drivers" button would put apps like Norton Antivirus on my computer.

One other issue I had was that ASUS did not provide the latest drivers for the Intel HD graphics. I spent a couple of days trying to figure out why my monitor would not go into sleep mode and I finally tracked it down to the graphic drivers. Getting the latest from the Intel site resolved this issue. This is not really a knock on ASUS but I just thought I'd mention it to help others who encounter the same problem.

P.S. I originally thought that ASUS did not include SATA data cables. An Amazon oommenter prompted me to look harder and I did, in fact, find two SATA data cables hidden in the folds. I've upgraded my review from 3 to 4 stars as a result of my mistake.

This motherboard works as advertised. I have had one problem for which I'm removing a star. For some reason, somewhere between 25% and 50% of my boots give me a bios error telling me that my boot drive is not completely supported and to check compatibility mode in the BIOS. Compatibility mode is fine and I tried another disk (both were SSDs). I contacted ASUS and they want me to try booting under Windows (I'm using Linux). I don't have a Windows disk so this is a non-starter. I should probably just get the board replaced, but (a) I don't reboot all that often (I noticed when I was getting the system set up and rebooted frequently) (b) it mostly works and (c) replacing the motherboard is a pain. So I think I'm going to live with it.

I had to RMA this board once, but otherwise it's been a great choice. I've been replacing all of my office's old PCs (multiple brands bought over the years) with custom-built PCs that I hope will last the next 5 years with outstanding performance. This motherboard has so far performed superbly. I give it four stars instead of five because of the rear panel, which I've had to manually bend every time to make sure the motherboard fits into the case correctly. Otherwise, parts of the metal panel will block--or even be jammed into--rear ports.

I was looking for a specific board that had 6x SATA 6gb/s ports, and 4 RAM slots. This board fit the bill. I was weary though looking at reviews on newegg. Apparently this board had BIOS issues for a little while. I can't say that I've seen any of the issues they're seen.

The board itself is well made with a rather thick PCB. It is thicker than cheaper boards. ASUS usually makes quality boards. RAM, CPU install and installation into my case were trouble free. I have 6 SATA drives and a 380w PSU driving this board and it hasn't complained one bit.

The only gripe is the On-board NIC - Realtek is a cheap chip-set and would have preferred an Intel chip-set for the gigabit ethernet. Luckily the 8111G has been around long enough for Linux support.

I built my last 3 systems with Gigabyte boards, and switching back to Asus was the smartest thing I've done computer-wise in years.
The board is well laid out, with the exception of the two SATA connectors that are now hidden behind my graphics card, but that's a minor issue since it does provide six 6Gb connectors, all running from the H87 chipset, no separate controller for any of them.
The board is compact, and even though I have a mid-mid tower case anyone that wants to use a smaller case will have little problem fitting it in.
If you have a two-slot video card, you will cover one of the three PCI Express 1 slots, but if you're building a 'simple' system this shouldn't be an issue.
The onboard sound is Realtek, and more than sufficient when paired with a decent set of speakers.
Some may lament the number of USB ports, but if you need more there are three headers on the board providing six additional USB 2.1 ports, and one USB3 header providing another two, so I think you're covered. :)
A good solid board, with plenty of features and control provided by the UEFI BIOS, as Asus calls it.
The software provided gives you plenty of control over just about everything. Overclocking is a snap, if you're into that.
When I build another computer for a friend or family I will be pushing for them to use this board. It's that good, in my humble opinion.
