Stream online videos faster, experience speedier file downloads, and enjoy more fluid online gaming. The USB-AC56 adapter gives any PC the vital upgrade for an all-around better online experience on the go or at home.

Maximum Flexibility For Maximum Wireless Coverage

Thanks to its enhanced antenna design, the USB-AC56 adapter covers large homes and offices, including multi-floor locations. For even greater connection range, it comes with an attachable, high-gain antenna to further increase the distance you can be from your internet hotspot or router. What’s more, the modular design lets you attach other antennas to it.

Specialized Signal Stability

ASUS AiRadar intelligently strengthens wireless device connectivity using precise directional signal amplification for extended coverage, increased data throughput speed, and enhanced stability. Because connection strength varies based on your environment, the USB-AC56 adapter features specialized antenna designs and high-powered beam packing to detect wireless router locations and shape transmissions so they’re optimized for the fastest, most stable connection strength.

First, I apologize, but this will be a lengthy review. For that reason I am breaking it into two sections. The quick and dirty section and the full review. If you are in a hurry, just read the quick and dirty section. If you want the full story, read the full review.

QUICK AND DIRTY REVIEW: Great product once you have WORKING drivers.
Steps to make this work correctly under Windows 8.1 x64
1. DO NOT install the Asus drivers and setup utility!!! (I can't stress this enough.)
2. Plug in USB adapter and let Windows assign the driver automatically.
3. Go to the Edimax driver download page using the link below and download the drivers.
4. Go to device manager and select update driver for the Asus wireless adapter.
5. Select the Win81x64 folder in the extracted driver location and let Windows update the driver.
6. Enjoy your now, fully functional, 802.11ac adapter!

I am a fan of Asus. I have an Asus MB and the RT-AC87U router. All work exceptionally well. I figured that as I have an 802.11ac router, I might as well take advantage of that speed and get a USB 802.11ac adapter. Having had good experiences with other Asus products, I bought this adapter.
I downloaded the latest version of the driver and setup utility from the Asus website, installed the driver package and plugged in the adapter. It opened the, newly installed bloatware, network setup utility and allowed me to connect to my WiFi. All appeared good. I was connected at a good speed, around 520 Mbps and able to surf and stream just fine. I figured I would live with the unnecessary bloatware. And all was good, for about 6-8 hours. At this point, the adapter just stopped responding. Solid blue LED, no flashing, no connection to the network.

IF I were you, consumer, I would head to the most popular comments section in this thing and look at what S1N1C has to say, because it will save you frustration and a product from being thrown out a window... ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 8-8.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WARNING!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT FREAKIN INSTALL the asus drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will crash constantly!!!

This is GREAT hardware but really crappy software indefinitely.... Hence why I gave 4 stars instead of 5, GREAT product and I am seeing super fast speeds, but no thanks on the bloatware asus you almost ruined my computer. Thankfully I had restore available enough to reboot it back.

You will get blue screen of death if you install the bloatware asus includes... any time you lose signal, disable device, unplug it, you will crash with an OS failure. I have windows 8.1 x64 and the drivers crash ALL windows 8+ OS's so idk how people claim to be on windows 8.1 and run this perfectly, my system is literally 100% up to date on all updates across the board....Asus literally punched the pooch on their software for this product and they have yet to TRY and fix their crappy mistake, their latest update for this was like 9 months ago or something, do yourself a favor and just follow the instructions S1N1C said at the top comments section. Manuall install the drivers in device manager. From Enimax's website.

but anyways I am getting 520~800+ bandwidth now on 11 AC, on an ASUS 68U router... I am running on 70% transmission power for 5Ghz, and im at least a good 50 feet away outside of a 5 bedroom house... Enjoying the sunshine melting the snow from previous weather. It's pretty nice out and im enjoying writing this comment while out here.

Hope this helps someone, don't do what I did and waste an hour of your life.............................. And possibly everything on your hard drive.

Running on Windows 8.1, and plug and played. Later loaded drivers from provided CD to see any difference that provided. No negative impact, however, provide a nice utility interface screen. Outstanding range along with upgrading my wireless to "N" dual band. Doubled my speed on my older (3 yr.) laptop.

Purchased adapter to strengthen and upgrade laptop wireless for business travel and hotels. Yes the adapter is a little large, but given the performance results is a good tradeoff.

Read all the reviews and have never had a problem with Asus products both at home on on the road.

Updated November 29, 2014- Took one star off for old ASUS drivers:
S1N1C was right on the money given their review and advice, extremely helpful. I was happy with the new adapter even with the new drivers downloaded from the ASUS website. However, 2.4GHz band was higher but kept bouncing around between 7.0Mbps and 144Mbps. The 5GHz band was also much higher, but again kept bouncing around from 650 - 750Mbps.

All my networking is ASUS and have been happy up to this point and thought my router might be going bad. But before going down that path did a little investigating (reading).

After researching the comments section and reading S1N1C's review I deleted the ASUS utility and all adapter drivers. Went to http://www.edimax.com/edimax/download/download/data/edimax/global/download/for_home/wireless_adapters/wireless_adapters_ac1200_dual-band/ew-7822uac and downloaded the Edimax drivers for MS 8.1

Results were outstanding 2.4GHz is 144Mbps stable and the 5GHZ is 867Mbps stable as a rock!!

Excellent review from S1N1C dated September 25, 2014. Should note that the drivers I downloaded were dated Oct.'14 so a little newer and working excellent. Latest drivers on ASUS website were dated May'14....not good, so don't use them.

Hope this helps, as it helped me and my adapter is working fantastic!
