Outstanding Notebook, March 27, 2009
This review is from: ASUS X71SL-B2 17-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
This notebook is an outstanding product. The features are extensive and provide a truly portable desktop replacement. The look and feel and overall quality are reminiscent of the original IBM Thinkpad. The Asus 24/7 notebook tech support has also been exemplary. Be aware that the headphone and microphone audio jacks are the type that require a firm insertion until the plug clicks in and locks. I've had a great experience with this notebook and particularly like the ability to run Windows XP Pro on it.

ASUS X71SL B2 - Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz - 17" TFT, October 18, 2010
This review is from: ASUS X71SL-B2 17-Inch Laptop (Personal Computers)
Many important specifications are missing in the description:
ASUS X71SL B2
Dimensions (WxDxH): 16.1 in x 11.7 in x 1.7 in
Manufacturer Warranty: 2 years. Customer pays return shipping.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26 GHz
Display: 17" 1440 x 900
Display Backlight: Indeterminate. Assume it has the older, heavier, more power hungry CF bulb.
Hard Drive: 320 GB 5400 rpm
Graphics Controller: NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GT
Wired Networking: Gigabit Ethernet
Wireless Networking: 802.11b, g, n
Web Cam: Integrated, 1.3 Megapixel. This could be a high quality web cam.
Web Cam Microphone: Lacking a built-in microphone for the web cam. (This is really stupid !)
Battery: 8-cell 5200 mAh. Bottom end laptops have cheaper, but lighter 6-cell, 3900 mAh batteries.
Weight: 8.2 lbs The extra weight is due to the longer lasting 8-cell battery.
The processor is from Intel's previous generation of CPU's, but should provide good performance. The additional product cost is due mostly to the nVidia 9650M GT 1GB VRAM video adapter and the longer lasting battery. The video adapter's private RAM is completely separate from the system RAM and should significantly improve gaming performance over a minimum cost laptop PC. Typical business and home usage will not benefit from this extra video performance in any way.
