Motherboard Size  Motherboards come in a variety of sizes for different applications. You will want to make sure your computer case is designed to hold the size of motherboard you buy. Smaller motherboards have less connections for components, but are useful when you need a PC that won't take up a lot of space. ATX ATX ATX ATX

Working great in my new PC build.

I'm not overclocking the CPU at all but the menus to do so all seem very easy and intuitive.

Would recommend to anyone looking for a high end motherboard that would allow for expansion.

I managed to install windows 8 on my new machine after installing this motherboard but ran into random BSoD stating CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, which could be anything, but most likely drivers. I reinstalled drivers, windows 8, everything, but the computer still had the same blue screens. I looked to see if the system was saving any dump files and found that there were none, indicating some sort of kernel power issue (meaning the computer was losing power before it could save anything). I tested all ram sticks, power supply, removed peripherals including graphics card, no difference. I eventually concluded the problem was with the motherboard, or the CPU. Since CPU's rarely go bad I sent the motherboard into ASUS RMA, and they fixed it within a week or so and sent it back and all was well. I'm not pleased to have a re worked board, but these things happen I guess.
If I was buying again, I would do some more research and get a higher end Asus board, or a Gigabyte because this one in particular only has 4 TRUE VRM's. The 8 it states on the box and in advertisements is due to doublers, which is a shoddy way of regulating voltage and makes this thing have 8 virtual VRM's, but not true ones. All gigabyte boards have 8 true VRM's, which reduce ripple significantly. I suspect my board suffered from this cheap design.

First and foremost, this was my first time building a PC. As such I didn't know what to expect when ordering this motherboard.

I received on time and in perfect condition. I opened it and examined for any damage. There was not a scratch on it. It fit very easily into my corsair 300r case. After installing all of my components, I fired it up. It booted just fine and took me to the bios.

From there, I made all the configurations I wanted very easily. Seeing as this board was made for oveclocking, I dove right in. Since I am not experienced with overclocking, I researched how it was done properly. Once you know what you are doing its a breeze.

All in all, I am pleased with this motherboard and what it is capable of. Sure it is not the best, but you get what you pay for. I payed for an entry level overclocking motherboard that does its job very well.

After just two weeks of use, the ethernet port on my first board suddenly stopped working. I ordered a replacement and Amazon of course shipped it quickly. I have the new board in now and my system was working great for another 3 months. Just yesterday the ethernet port on the second board died. It was working the night before but when I turned the computer on in the morning it didn't work. The computer wasn't moved or anything overnight, just powered off. So I decided to purchase a PCIe gigabit card instead of dealing with warranty repairs from Asus. I'm knocking off a star for quality control issues. I hope the rest of the motherboard lasts...

In any case my new system is screaming fast! Here are my specs:

- Intel i5 4570S
- 8GB G.Skill 1866MHZ CL8
- Nvidia GTX 650 Ti
- Samsung 840 Pro SSD (running Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit)
- Some Apple SSD pulled from a friend's Macbook (running Windows 7 64-bit)
- 2 older HDDs for storage
- ASUS 24B3ST optical drive
- Silverstone ST50F-P power supply

Just a note in case you're upgrading instead of buying all new stuff: I was planning on keeping my case and my old optical drive since it was working, but failed to notice that this board doesn't have any IDE connectors on it. Thus, I wound up having to buy a SATA optical drive. Too bad because my old drive still functions just fine...

Here are some random comments and thoughts:

- BIOS is very easy to use. I had to drop into BIOS to increase RAM speed from the standard 1600MHz to 1866MHz. I also changed the order of the drives for how they boot, and changed the graphics settings to use the PCI-E output only.

Used this for my first build, and it works excellently.
here are some things I like and dislike about it:
Pros:
-SLI compatible. This is one of the cheapest motherboards with this feature, and as someone buying an NVidia GPU with intention to buy a second one later this is handy, and really makes the board as close to future-proof as possible.
-Very well labelled and documented. My case (NZXT Source 530 full-tower) had a very confusing and poorly labelled assortment of cables, but thankfully ASUS included a little nub that fit over the case LED and power plugs that labelled everything and said where it all was supposed to go. Thanks ASUS!
-Plenty of ports of all kinds.
-Bios is easy to navigate

Cons:
-Only 2 PCIe slots. This is not an issue for me, so I didn't lower the rating, but if you want to get 3 graphics cards, or have 2 and get a wifi card, I would invest the extra money in a Z87-PLUS, which is the same, but has an extra PCIe slot.
-Backplate has the annoying little inward facing pins that you have to bend. From what I know, this is standard among all motherboard manufacturers, so I didn't dock a star, but it's annoying, and ASUS should lead the way in staying away from this practice.

Over all, it does what I need it to do very well for a lower price than competing products. I am happy I chose this.
My rig:
i5 4570 with stock cooler
ASUS Z87-A
8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600Mhz RAM (CAS latency 9)
PNY GTX 770 4GB OC version
EVGA NEX 650G 80+ gold fully modular 650w PSU
Western Digital Caviar black 1TB 7200RPM HDD
A-Data SP600 128GB SSD
NZXT Source 530 full tower case
