[Amazon keeps removing links from my review and replaces them with [...] I will try to post the link to full review in comments sections.]

My build:

Intel i7-4770 CPU (not overclocked)
Asus Z87-Plus motherboard
32 GB of Kingston KHX16C9P1K2/16 RAM (4x8GB) - from Asus compatibility list for this motherboard
2x2TB internal hard drives - WD Caviar Black WD2002FAEX
Pioneer BDR-2208 Blu-ray drive (retail, includes software for Blu-ray playback)
Asus GTX650TIB-DC2OC-2GD5 GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST graphics card
SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W power supply
CoolerMaster N400 case

UPDATE YOUR BIOS BEFORE PROCEEDING!!! You can do this before installing the OS. As of now Asus already has BIOS v. 1207 update on their website

!!! DO NOT INSTALL ANY DRIVERS FROM USB FLASH DRIVE - COPY INSTALLERS TO THE HARD DRIVE AND INSTALL FROM THERE !!! Intel explicitly warns you about it in README file (but who reads these, right?) for USB 3 drivers, which makes sense - while driver is installed the device is connected and disconnected and setup program is running from that drive - not a good idea. To be safe I would follow this for all other drivers as well.

NOTE THAT IT IS POSSIBLE TO FORCE WINDOWS 8 NETWORK DRIVERS TO INSTALL UNDER WINDOWS SERVER 2012. One needs to modify .INF file. The guide on how to do this is here:[...]
Everything below is related to Windows 7 x64
============================================

As this was my first build I wanted to make sure all components work perfectly together (or as close to that as can realistically be achieved).

Thankfully, Microsoft provides a useful Custom View in Event Log called "Administrative Events" that shows you all errors/warnings from all Windows Logs.

This is a really great value motherboard. You get lots of ports: 8 USB 3.0 ports (6 rear, 2 internal), 8 (internal) USB 2.0 ports and 8 SATA III/6Gbps ports. I really don't know how you could possibly fill 16 USB ports, but I guess it's good to have them. I'm using 6 of the 8 SATA ports (1 SSD, 4 HHDs). The BIOS is UEFI-based and has mouse support. Overclocking is a breeze, assuming you opt for an unlocked Haswell CPU (4770K) - you just increase the maximum multiplier (which multiplies the 100MHz base clock) and go. You can manually set the CPU voltage if you want. The USB controllers also support UASP (what ASUS calls USB Speed Boost), which improves performance of the already-fast USB 3.0 and 2.0.

Unless you want Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support built-in, there's really no reason to opt for the more expensive Z87 ASUS models. The only negative is that the motherboard lacks Thunderbolt. It has a Mini DisplayPort, which is what Thunderbolt uses, but plugging in an Apple Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter does nothing. Nothing beyond Apple products use Thunderbolt, so it's not a real negative, but I would have preferred it just to be future-proof in case it does take off.

Intel i7 4770K CPU
Corsair TX650M 650W power supply

Used existing Logitech USP keyboard, Asus internal LightScribe CD/DVD Burner, HP 2011x Monitor and EVGA GeForce GTX550Ti video card. A second GTX550Ti video card was added with the SLI adaptor provided with Motherboard.

PROS: While I have been working with computers for many years, this was my first build of a complete computer in over a decade. The ASUS Motherboard instruction manual was easy to follow and the whole assembly took less than an hour. The hardest part was getting the metal cover plate for the rear panel to fit and attach. CAUTION: Test the direction of all aftermarket CPU coolers on the CPU before mounting as if it is mounted in the incorrect position, the first memory module may not go in to its slot on the MB. I was worried that connecting all of the single wire connectors would be a problem, but they were well marked and there were no problems. They can be connected to a plug that then connects to the MB. I did not use any of the drivers from the supplied CD, but installed the most current from the ASUS website. I was able to install and register my previously installed (and removed) copy of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OEM. This operating system install was much faster than it was when I installed in on my old computer. I did not install any of the ASUS software other than the necessary drivers. The Windows Performance Index peaks at 7.

The board is great, Asus USB 3.0 drivers and enhancement software are complete garbage that will BSOD your rig. Go ahead and google asusfilter.sys and note the titles of your results.

Constantly I was getting crashes on the 3.0 drivers first when using my 8 port 3.0 hub, eventually using WinDBG and the x64 win7 symbol package I narrowed down the crash to the usb hub and asusfilter.sys

[From WinDBG: Probably caused by : ASUSFILTER.sys ( ASUSFILTER+8d59 ) ]

I removed these drivers as and loaded Intels version (2.5.1.28 (isubdrv.20130808-0124) which seemed to stop the first set of crashes. Having thought that was that it crashed yet again using a large data transfer later that night; after some digging I noticed the USB Boost software that was included with the utility was still calling asusfilter.sys from the systwow64 folder. I've removed all of Asus' software entirely and so far so good... but the driver is still in the %system root%\windows\syswow64\drivers folder. I have seen others wipe their systems because removing Asus' crap software & uninstalling the root hub while deleting the driver doesn't seem to remove all traces of this bunk software and drivers off your system.

I'll post an update later if it's warranted, as per others with similar problems using this board I am now debating a full re-install after wasting hours building and configuring this rig. If you want to chance using their software, do yourself a favor and capture a ghost/acronis image before loading ANYTHING... I made the mistake of trying to hold out once I had it running stable for awhile.
