Had to return it... phone specs are great but the one that is sold (shipped from amazon sold by a third party) here is actually a Chinese region version with a custom ROM loaded on it... making it a terrible option for anyone who wants to use it outside of China and load it with enterprise software from your company (cause being a SKU for China automatically makes it a security threat). Plus you can't update it due to the custom ROM.

The phone though, very good. Fast and responsive. No LTE (loses a star) which is a knock in the U.S. but HSPA+ is very fast and frankly I'm always on WiFi so not an issue for me but might be for many. Supports a 64Gb microSD and dual SIM, really a good inexpensive phone.

If the phone was truly an international phone it would have met my needs and might meet yours too depending... but either way make sure the SKU is WW (world) and not CN (China) else you'll run into the same issues I did.

It seems all of these amazon sellers are becoming crooked.
I am starting to lose trust in Amazon, might a well cancel prime and just walk into walmart and the local computer store where i can shout at the asian guy.

Zenfone5 delivered not genuine WW version. instead we got a CN version with a custom rom which is locked and will not take firmware update/fixes from manufacturer Asus.
there is also chinese apps still left on the phone which cannot be removed,
Also you will not be able to get customer support with this device,
Sooo.... Not satisfied, but i already turned in my old phone before i checked this 1

The first device i got was great and real WW version, it suckered me into getting more of this device for the rest of the family----don-don-daaa (bad idea)

The product came without being wrapped in any general glass paper. It made me suspicious of the product being deficient and newly refurbished. The manual accompanied is written in simple Chinese which is not an English one as I expected. There is no headset. Only a power adapter and a USB connecting cable are provided. The product label printed on the box has been remarked by additional stickers. Besides, I have used this phone for three days (since July 21st, 2014). The receiver does not work well and largely distorted my voice being heard on the other end of the phone call. The problem is unacceptable. My friends always thought I was talking to them using the phone in a bathroom. Given the specification and prices, I would have given this product five starts if there exists no aforementioned problems.

Very good product. Sturdy, quality fee, nice screen size and resolution, textured buttons, and nonslip battery cover. Good price for a phone with these specs.

My only problems are:
The sound is too low, I used an app and it is fine now, but too low out of the box.
And the camera takes too long between pressing capture, and the phone actually capturing the pic. Also the flash is a a bit dim compared to other phones considering it has a good 8mp camera. Night pics are also tot to great.

I love this phone. The screen is beautifully clear and crisp, and while it tends towards a cooler cast to the colors, it's not too noticeable. I was fortunate enough to get a truly international version (though I was fully prepared to change the ROM myself if needed), and rooting it was a breeze.

There are a few issues with this phone that might deter others from considering it though.

The Serious Cons

- The rear speaker on this is pretty bad. It works, but that's about all that can be said. If you're going to listen to music, I'd strongly recommend getting a good pair of ear buds or headphones. Even then, sound quality is not one of this phone's strong points.
- The camera sucks in low light, especially the front camera. Nighttime selfies are completely out of the question, and the amount of noise in low light photos is REALLY noticeable.
- The screen is difficult to see in direct sunlight. Especially if the screen is dirty.
- The battery gets drained like woah. I'm not sure why that's the case just yet, but I'd recommend keeping a charging cord with you at all times if you intend to use the phone a lot throughout the day. Apparently, the battery life improves over time once you start using it regularly, which is a trait of the particular type of battery used. We'll see how it holds up over the next month or so.
- Call quality is not the best. It works, but if you want clearer calls, this is not the phone for you.
- There's issues with the software that really affect the phone's performance (such as call quality and brightness of the flash). ASUS is currently releasing patches and updates on a pretty frequent basis to address these issues, so there's quite a few updates to install straight out of the box.

UPDATE 7/31/14: Raised from 2 to 3 stars. After being contacted by ASUS I updated the device firmware. This phone has a lot of bugs, but ASUS has been releasing new firmwares literally every few days this month. Ive updated the firmware three times and each time the phone is becoming more responsive and overall better. These updates arent automatic. You must go to the ASUS website and download them manually. The flash is brighter now, and battery life has increased dramatically. Once this phone gets Kitakat, it should be a really great device. Battery life is still on as good as a Moto G, but the only big problem I have now is the speaker volume is pretty low compared to over phones. I hope ASUS fixes this.

I purchased this phone for a couple of reasons. I loved my Moto G and Moto E phones that I passed onto family members, and wanted a phone with a better camera and possibly with more than 1gb of RAM. On the ASUS product website, as well as many reviews of this phone, it is listed as having 2gb of RAM. The model shipped to me only has 1gb of RAM.
This Zenfone 5 is an 'international phone'. It's not currently sold in the United States, so this model is targeted towards China / India, I believe. It's a dual sim phone, something very rarely seen in the United States. Inside the open box, there was the phone, some Chinese literature, a small USB cable, and a US power adapter. I wish sellers would leave the phones sealed and just throw in a free power adapter, because the phone could have been used or refurbished.
Speaking of the phone, It has two micro SIM slots, and my micro AT&T simcard worked fine in slot 1. I was able to use 3g HSPA+ data without any issues. I had the same reception on this phone, as my Moto E & G phones did. So no problems there.
