Editorial Reviews

Digitally remastered edition of this 1971 album housed in a digisleeve. Asylum, Cressida's second album for Vertigo, has eight extended Rock workouts such as `Asylum' and `Let Them Come When They Will'. Peter Jennings' keyboard playing enhances the lead vocals of Angus Cullen, backed by John Culley on lead guitar. With extra percussion and orchestral accompaniment, Cressida's sound has often been compared to their contemporaries, The Moody Blues. Repertoire. 2010.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Addition To Your Progressive Collection January 31, 2011
Format:Audio CD
It is amazing how far Cressida had progressed since the release of their fine self titled debut. In keeping with their melodic approach, they'd added gorgeous orchestrated passages and folkish elements. They also began to rock a little harder and delve into extended jazzy segments accented by brass. They added a whole new level of depth and atmosphere to their far more ambitious and complex song structures. They'd grown as composers and musicians and were just hitting their prime. It's a shame the band would disintergrate before this brilliant album would see release. Cressida deserves recognition along side Vertigo's better known progressive bands. They certainly shouldn't be left in obscurity. Thank you Repertoire records for reissuing another lost classic up to the usual high standards in sound quality and packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars British brillance! June 16, 2013

Cressida was an amazing British band that only released 2 LPs. This is their 2nd. The music is most intriguing, filled with arrangements that are well-conceived. The instrumental prowess of these guys is stellar! They incorporate Progressive rock with Jazz/Folk influences. Vocally, they remind me of Caravan. Same with the wonderful instrumental work.

5.0 out of 5 stars worth exploring February 7, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Cressida is a VERY pleasant band as far as creative easy-listening goes. They have a pleasant sound very similar to early King Crimson and Caravan, and yet they write songs that are actually *more* interesting than many of the more popular progressive rock artists. I think you'll be very surprised and delighted with this album. If you're looking for pretty and melodic arrangements in your progressive rock, check out these guys.
