MARVIN GAYE IN VEGAS STYLE CABARET,
By ged feerick (england) - See all my reviews
This review is from: At the Copa (Dig) (Audio CD)
Calling all Marvin Gaye fans. GET THIS album whilst still available. It proves what a versatile singer the guy was. he carries off the show brilliantly in a way very few can and really is up there with Bobby Darin, Jackie Wilson,Sammy D who all have Live at the Copa albums (All are excellent by the way). Sam Cookes Copa album is the Ultimate though!
Highlight of the album is the showstopping version of "Shadow of your smile". Marvin wanted to be a cabaret singer in the vein of Sammy Davis we are told in the notes but Berry Gordy was not happy with this. Why I do not know on this performance. This guy had so much more than his Motown sound. |
