This is one of my favorite metal compilatons of all time. I bought it in early 1994 along with At Death's Door 2. At the time, I was slowly getting into death metal and I had very limited knowledge of the genre. I didn't have any friends guiding me in the right direction. So I had to discover some things on my own. 2 of the things that helped steer me the right way was this album, the second At Death's Door album and Death Is Just The Beginning Vol 2. So those 3 albums will always hold a place in my heart as 3 of the major classic compilation albums in the history of metal or death metal for that matter.

Now for my review of this album. This is a compilation album mostly made up of some of the major death metal bands from the late 80's and early 90's. This is a walk back in time to death metal's hayday and is sure to be a treasure for the old school death metal maniacs. Some of my favorite songs here are Mass Hypnosis by Sepultura, Out Of The Body by Pestilence, Dead By Dawn by Deicide, Desecrator by Exhorder, Open Casket by Death, 'Til Death by Obituary, Decadence Within by Malevolent Creation and Beyond The Subconcious by Atrocity. Let me not forget that this album was released back in the early 90's and you won't find this album in stores anymore. So if you ever get the opportunity to get this album, by all means seize the moment and take that first trip through death's door.
