5.0 out of 5 stars The wrong list for great music from a bad film
I rented the DVD of the film "At First Sight" a few years ago. Great idea, but the movie had a slow plot & shallow characters. The music is another issue, Mark Islam writes fantastic music, this is one of his highlights. The mood is rather equal throughout; sad but hopeful. I read in other review that Diane Krall sang in the movie, but the singer Gigi Worth in the CD does...

I am disappointed. I see the film because in there Diana Krall sings the theme. After I bought the record for the same reason and in it there is another singer who sings the theme. Anyway, the record is not bad, but ...

I rented the DVD of the film "At First Sight" a few years ago. Great idea, but the movie had a slow plot & shallow characters. The music is another issue, Mark Islam writes fantastic music, this is one of his highlights. The mood is rather equal throughout; sad but hopeful. I read in other review that Diane Krall sang in the movie, but the singer Gigi Worth in the CD does a great job, rather lower in pitch, an alto. The main theme repeats like in classical music, meaning that it changes a little each time. The theme is not boring as in some movie soundtracks where the same theme never develops. The last section has some jazz standards from Louis Armstrong, George Shearing, & Ella Fitzgerald. These are recorded very well & add a classic touch to the ending. This is one of those CD's that you can play over & over again. Check out Mark Islam other movie soundtracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars "theme is particularly beautiful and deeply romantic", May 30, 2000
This review is from: At First Sight: Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
In the liner notes, Mark Isham states - "I wrote themes, not for individual characters, but for points in the story. There was a theme for their love scenes - a breakup theme - a theme that I developed to underscore the two people discussing things that were important to them...I composed music to reflect interior states, the specific cognitions which Virgil experienced".

Opening theme is particularly beautiful, deeply romantic. The music speaks mostly with piano and strings, with underscore - "OUR EYES AREN'T WHAT MAKE US SEE", reaching the high excitement of - "A SEEING JOURNEY", with the sadness and brooding ' "YOU DON'T SEE ME".

The closing - "LOVE IS WHERE YOU ARE" sung by Diana Krall in the film and Gigi Worth on the album is so tender and a responsive melody. The song tugs at your heart-strings giving you that ache just before it is broken.

Total Time: 49:34 on 15 Tracks/ Milan Records - 73138 35869 2 (1998)

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Music......, October 20, 2002

This review is from: At First Sight: Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Poignant and reminscent of the movie I love this Soundtrack I don't know why Amazon has the wrong listings for the CD but here is the correct line-up:

1. At First Sight
2. A Simple Touch
3. This Is What Beautiful Looks Like
4. A Seeing Celebration
5. To Share a Feeling
6. A Seeing Journey
7. You Don't See Me
8. This Look I Love
9. Our Eyes Aren't What Makes Us See
10.Love is Where You Are - Diana Krall
11.A Kiss to Build A Dream On - Louis Armstrong
12.It Never Entered My Mind - George Shearing
13.Easy Come, Easy Go - Diana Krall
14.They Can't Take That Away From Me - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
15.Love is Where You Are - Diana Krall (longer version with Instrumental Suite at the Beginning)

Highly Recommend this CD I L0VE Diana Krall's voice and the songs with Louis Armstrong just added to my enjoyment. The first 9 songs on the CD are Instrumental Suites but they are different each in their own way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reminiscent of his Oscar nom. score, May 2, 2008
This review is from: At First Sight: Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Mark Isham has written over 100 movie scores. There are dozens of different
styles (and interpretations) of composition he realizes for film. Sometimes
(like many renowned mood-makers) he finds it appropriate to nearly-mimic a
style used before. There are many examples in Hollywood where such copying
is aggravating, esp. when due to studio pressure (see Mr. Horner). It's HERE
where Mark pays overdue homage to "A River Runs Through It". There's many
a listener who absolutely LOVES that original score! Unlike most of those
smart people, I've collected almost everything there is of Isham's work. I
say to anyone who wishes for more 'A.R.R.T.I.', "YOU MUST BUY THIS CD NOW!".

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved the theme song and classical (original score)!, March 7, 1999

My all time CD will be Titanic and has been for the longest time. Seeing this movie, the music did have an impact on it. I loved the theme song, it had some touching parts to it and made me relive the ending - awesome! It was a good CD but I wouldn't listen to it all the time.
