4.0 out of 5 stars Rough and Ready, February 21, 2006

The Randies are grunge rock reminiscent of early Elastica, but with stronger lyrics and better sound quality. A little rough, making me wonder if they are in need of refinement, or if refinement would actually ruin their appeal. Definately worth a listen, and I intend to buy more!

Randomly bought this cd because I thought the cover was cool. Now I can't take the darn thing out of my car.

WARNING- This cd is addictive, but in a GOOD way.

I lived in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s, and I loved to listen to groups like Elastica, Belly, Echobelly, The Muffs, and The Go-Go's while driving around under the sunny skies amidst mountains, palm trees, and the ocean.

I have the latest Echobelly album, which is very slow and rather dull. I have the latest album by The Muffs which is okay, but this album by The Randies is excellent! It has all the energy, cheerfulness, and great melodies of the best of the mid-1990s bands' music listed above. It's fresh, exciting, and happy music.

An exception to the mood is "Put Out" which is a song of scorn sung to a girl who "is always on [her] back and not [her] feet," telling her to "keep your mouth shut and your legs closed," with some caustic profanity peppered in for added scorn. The tone reminds me of the song 1996 "Ladykillers" from Lush or The Waitresses on speed. The lyrics in "Good For You" and "Make It Right" remind me of the song "Skidmarks On My Heart" by The Go-Go's -- not cheerful lyrics, yet the music is still lively.

One of my favorite songs is "Cookie," with a chorus that goes "Cookie, sweetie pie, apple of my eye, cherry, sugar pop, caramel, lemon drops." Other songs I particularly like are "Boys In Stereo," "The Way It Goes," and "Iron Monkey," but I like all the songs on this album, except perhaps "Put Out."

This is perfect for listening to while driving in a convertible on a beautiful sunny day along the beach, bouncing in your seat, having a great time!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ramones Resurrected, November 17, 2004
This review is from: At the Friendship Motor Inn (Audio CD)
This band rocks! About time we had a band that can really play, doesn't take itself too seriously, and has that long lost late early 80's punk vibe. Fantastic stuff. I think we'll be hearing a lot more from these chicks soon. It doesnt hurt that, as a side note, they're hot as hell.
