The Biggest Hurt,
By
This review is from: At Her Best (Audio CD)
These recordings were made for Audiograph Records, they are not the original Columbia Recordings. 8 of the tracks are from Barbara's 1982 album The Biggest Hurt. The only Barbara Fairchild compilation issued on CD to contain the original Columbia recordings of "Teddy Bear Song," "Color My World, "Cheatin' Is," "Kid Stuff" and "Baby Doll" was Classic Country on the Simitar label. That compilation, although out of print, is far superior and relatively easy to find used.

This review is from: At Her Best (Audio CD)
This is a compilation of remakes and some new songs Barbara recorded for Audiograph records in the early 80s. The remakes of "Teddy Bear Song", "Kid Stuff", "Baby Doll", "Cheatin' Is", and "Color My World" cannot match up to the superiority of the originals. Barbara sounds great but the production is faulty. However, there is a diamond in the rough in this collection: It is Barbara's first ever recording....and its the real thing....called "A Brand New Bed of Roses" recorded when she was only 15 back in 1965. That's the original recording...you can tell because of the sound of her voice. She sounds like a young Brenda Lee. This CD is worth it to get this alone. However, there are other tracks (if you overlook the remakes) that are good as well...most importantly a gem of a number entitled "The Biggest Hurt", a poignant story of a woman who regrets getting an abortion and dreams about the child she could have had and the life she could have had with it. A real heartbreaker!!
